Noisy eating in the workplace
35 Answers
Does anybody have any organisational rulings about eating in the workplace ?
I am unlucky enough to be in the vicinity of three colleagues who between them are eating crisps, apples, celery, carrots, pork scratchings, ALL day. It has become so bad that I am increasingly working from home to get away from it.
Last Tuesday, 5 oranges and 3 apples by midday - and that's just one of them ! In summer his waste basket is a swarm of flies flocking to the apple cores and orange peel.
Hypersensitive maybe, but I find it seriously anti-social and distracting, and it's always accompanied by glazed staring at a pc screen. My view is - if you want a snack, take a proper break and leave the room.
Do any of you work anywhere with rules or guidelines about this ?

Do what you do best mate,
eat curry, jalapeos, baked beans, lentil soup, brussels sprouts, cabbage and garlic, then, walk past the offending workmates desk and 'let rip' try not to follow through though.
That'll teach 'em
No, hold on, forget what I said about Brussels sprouts, I quite like you and wouldn't wish eating those foul, 'hand crafted by Beelzebub' evil things on anyone

Whiffet - where do you work? I just want to make sure I never end up working with you. You sound like a typical annoying, whiney idiot that thinks the world revolves round them. 'how dare people eat in my presence!'. Christ, get over yourself.
Leaving a meeting because people had crisps? What was the point of that? Did you hear the laughter as you closed the door? Do you wonder why people stop talking at their desks whe you arrive? Do your work colleagues a favour and resign.

I love ya whiffey, but this is either a mickey take or you really need to get a grip of yourself here!
How about concentrating on what you're supposed to be doing instead of gawking at other people eating? (which in itself is rude)
More things in life to get yourself stressed over mate- if this is your biggest gripe in life, you're a very lucky man indeed.

Ahhh, but i'm efficient in my job whiffey, the customers can all eat scratchings to their heart contents- wont make a difference- they get served at a super duper speed and on their way, aint around long enough for it/them to irritate me.
As for other checkout girls- it's a corner shop co-op Whiffey, there's me on the till...that's it ;-)

Not a packet of biscuits mamjet, you little charmer, it was crisps x 20, assorted flavours.
Have you posted anything else interesting today, or are you just buzzing around various threads to heap on a bit of sarcasm ? You've picked on a right one in me matey ! Keep 'em coming I love it, especially people who can't insult intelligently.

Whiff,
Perhaps people do take it a bit too far in your office, but be thankful the choice to eat is given. We are not allowed ANYTHING in our school. We do not have a teacher's lounge either. If we get caught with anything to eat or drink outside of thje cafeteria we risk being written up. I understand not being allowed to eat a 3 course meal in front of the class, but if I want a cup of tea at my desk at 7 am before the children are even awake yet, I should be allowed. We can not bring a bag lunch into the cafeteria. So they want us to buy that school crap they call lunch. If I do bring my cooler in (we do not have a fridge) and am caught carrying it I will be reprimanded. I sit in my car and eat most times and have been known to eat in the restroom. (gross)
So Whiffey, my long winded point is to keep it in perspective.

I thought I was the only one to offended by this!!!
My week so far & it's only Monday...
Morning: Lady slurping grapefruit (breakfast at work)...
Brunch: Constant nibbles of 2 women on their oatcakes (all morning)...
Lunch: 1 woman Crunching away on pitta & salad, other woman eating homemade (smelly) Chilli concoption and yet another sucking her soup through her teeth...:
Afternoon 1 guy constantly leaving his coffee to go cold so that he may glup the whole thing down in 2-3 goes (loudly)...
I go to the post office: jammed up in the line front to back, guy behind me (just tall enough for this mouth to be my ear height) pushed up against me constantly chewing & popping his gum for at lest 8 mins...
Back at work...guy who eats dinner late afternoon, yet again is eating his Asda bought ready meal (the same one every day) & stinking the place out for the rest of the day & belches til closing!!!
I've finally found where I can let off steam, belive me this a true account (if not a milder!) of my working week!!!!!! Thanks for letting me rant, PHEW, that's better :o)
