Re Bethelhem definition
3 Answers
I was thinking about Jacob and Bethel and had heard somewhere that Bethel means House of God - I then wondered if the suffix 'el' was short for 'Elohim'
I then thought of Bethelohim in full and thought it sounded awfully like Bethlehem - wouldn't it be nice if Bethlehem really meant House of God - but I find that traditionally Bethlehem means House of Bread - and I cannot reconcile that - I don't want to let this go yet - are there any Hebrew scholars out there who can help
