Following on from the thread in News, I find it incredible that people still discriminate on the grounds of colour, so my question is, are you colour prejudiced? I'm not talking about culture, religion, or ethnic descent - but simply colour, which, apparently, is what this latest government initiative basically applies to. Be honest - and if you would discriminate purely on the grounds of colour, can you explain your justification for that?

I don't view people on the grounds of colour, I take everyone as I find them.
To me there's no such thing as positive discrimination and never has been, how can you discriminate against someone for their own good?

Yes, quite right - and let's not forget that white is a colour - so does the real problem concern not colour, but culture?
Please explain how the Govt discriminate on color.....
One of my neighbours is Asian. The other neighbour is Jamaican. I get on well with both neighbours, but they will not even look at each other, let alone speak. I find this quite strange as you would think that due to "colour", they would have a lot in common.

I've heard of such situations. Odd isn't it? That has to be culture, surely?

The problem is idiots.
People should employ the best person for the job regardless of race, creed, colour or sexual orientation.
The trouble is how do you prove it?
If I won't employ blacks how would you get me to admit it?
I'd just say I did'nt think they were the best applicant because....
I remember years ago one of my supervisors said to me that "MTL did'nt like blacks or women" I never saw it that way at the time (MTL was one of the biggest employers in the city) but it is true there were no women drivers (well 1 kind of. and she did'nt last, but that was her choice though) but as for as ethinicity...
When I started they employed in my depot one Pakistani, one Indian, one Chinese and one black out of roughly 1000 people.
There were no other asians and only 2 other Chinese in the compan at the time, and none that I can recall after that.
The fire brigade and cops are gone daft on pc
white males ( my sons) are discriminated against, and yet are supposed to be rainbow people colour blind - what a load of crap - my sons skin colour gets thewm abarred from jobs - check out friere brigeade
Jamaicans I know cant stand the africans arriving here to work......
Sikhs dont get on with moslems.....generally speaking. They certainly abhor inter-marriage.

We could go on forever around the world but here in UK it would be fair to expect those who wish to work/live here adhere to our laws and try to abide our customs.
I am definitely going to bed in a minute, slightly off thread I know.
But the the other day i was stopped outside Allerton Road Fire station and a amn in his mid 20s walked passed me with his hands down the front of his trousers (I really hate that) he was a fireman! is there no end to this kind of behaviour?
Imagine it, thanks for pulling my baby out of the burning building but why does he stink of cheese. Dirty b@stard!

Since our immigration authorities are responsible as to who they allow into Britain they should put up a means test:ie

1. Do you accept British Law as it stands?
2. Can you live with British customs, ie mixed schools, english education, christian festivals etc
3. Work for a living and not rely on state benefits
4. Have one wife and not import a spouse.
5. Be loyal to UK, work for the country's benefit ?

stars for terambulain *********
I object to the fact that Sheffield City Council have started to put "It would be preferable if you could speak Urdu" on job applications. I don't believe they teach Urdu at school at the moment. The govt want to get people off benefits, but what chance do people have if this is becoming the norm?
Stars for Naomi for posting this thread, but more importyantyly for foscussing on the central issue of making the deeiifferenvce between colour and ciulture - that is important for dialogue

She was mad at the scroungers who don'rt pay in, gyppos, blacks, muslims, asylum seekers woh don't speak english

SHE SAID she was going to vote bnp and she lived through ww2 - what a shame - a bloody great wondeful sad alarming shame

she is not daft

what do we owe gher
Now sober and sentient (the miracles of coffee) I have to make a point about Terambulan's post.
1 "Accept British law as it satnds", we none of us accept British law as it stands, the law's are constantly being changed by Parliament to reflect the wishes of the people.
2 Mixed schools and Christian festivals, I know alot of people who don't like mixed schools (especially in Ulster) and one or two contributors here have no interest in Christian festivals.
3 Work for a living, don't get me started on that little pecadilloe.
4 Have one wife, what about divorcees? What about 4 kids 4 different fathers? What about getting married in the first place.
5 Be loyal to UK, loyal in what way? Support our sports teams? Support our foreign policies? What about emigrants who take all their home grown money with them, what price loyalty?
