I used to know a landlord who just used to sit on the customers side, drinking all evening. Never appeared to do any work, but he only had one leg, so maybe he was in pain if he stood for too long.
Trouble was, he was always COMPLETELY legless by the end of the night.....

Landlords work long hours, usually 7 days a week from early morning till late at night.

They have to do the books, order the booze, keep an eye on the staff that are ripping him off, responsibe if any under age drinkers are being served, change beer barrels, get change for the tills, clean the loos if somebody pukes up, answer the phone, stop any fighting, and the list goes on.

From an Ex landlord and glad to be out of it.

If they do get a Day off, they are still responsible for any problems that may occur in the pub, like underage drinking, drugs on the premises etc..
