Civil marriage ceremonies

Presumably same-sex unions don't get the same type of Marriage Certificate as is given to conventional couples?
Is there a special form or are the usual ones amended?

They receive a Civil Partnership Certificate.

I'm against civil partnerships as it just creates more work for lawyers.
What I don't understand is why did'nt they just change the law for marriage so that gay people can legally marry and have done with?
Why have the difference?

New law, change to an existing law, it makes no difference, lawyers will still get their �200 per hour.
