One of my work colleagues mentioned that just about every European country...and several non Europeans (including the US), still put their clocks back and forwards. It's the first ive heard of this.

Can anyone enlighten me ?

Many thanks

Thanks guys.

Im from the UK Heathfield...why would you assume im from one of those ?....infact im only about 10 miles from Heathfield (E. Sussex)

It's quite unbelievable that im nearly 43 years old, have been to quite a few European counties as well as the US and Caribbean, and im fairly clued up with the ways of the world and never knew that most countries put their clocks forwatd and back !!!!!
He assumes you are not from the UK as you don't seem to know about putting clocks backwards and forwards and hour, which is what happens here in the UK.
April fools was yesterday
I think Hammerman is just surprised that other countries do the clocks forwards/backwards thing and that it is not just peculiar to UK.........

Yeah....obviously i know we do this in the UK but i never gave it a second thought about other countries.
Lol, I understand what you mean HMan (hello stranger by the way!), I too was suprised that other countries do this wierd practice.

I regularly talk to friends in Sweden, what i mean is I talk to friends who live in sweden, not that I'm there talking ot 'em! And like a nutter last Sunday I was rabbiting on saying i'd lost an hours sleep etc....only to hear "yeah I know, we do same too"...
What was so confusing when I first came to France is that here we put our clocks back a week before the UK so for one week we were at the same time however we always put them forward at the same time. Thankfully, it's always the same time now so always an hour's difference.
I still wonder why everyone does it, I'd just stick at summertime (long summer nights)
And... here in the U.S. the States of Airizona and Hawaii don't observe DST. Until last year the State of Indiana didn't either. This year they changed the dates of.... well... change, from April and October to March and November making going to bed with the sun still up even longer...
The Answer is Scotland!

In scotland its to dark in winter at 8 in morning so it is put back so that there is more light for motorists and children walking to school
