please somebody explain to me what a democrat stands for , and what a republican stands for?

The rough parallel is that Republicans are the American version of our Conservatives - very much for country and honour, old fashioned value, and so on. The Republicans are our Labour - in favour of a benevolent government and a relaxed attitude to government, but as in most systems, there are degrees and cross-overs in policies and ideologies.

I think Andy's second Republicans were in fact Democrats.

R ususally are fiscally conservative, but Bush seems determined to bankcrupt the country.  D's are usually more liberal, but Kerry supports all sorts of military action (partly because there is no way he would be elected if he didn't).

 

This year, the lines are a little more blurred.  But then again, Tony Blair is 'new' Labour, which is roughly the same as 'old' Conservative

Republicans are evil treacherous communists who want to abolish the monarchy; Democrats are nice tolerant people who want to have pluralism, diversity and freedom of participation rather than oppressive dictatorship.  GSTQ
