French Translation needed - Shutters

I really didn't know which section to post this in...

Does anyone know what the french word for "shutters" would be? As in, the wooden kind that go either side of your windows...

My french dictionary says Volet is the word for a shutter, but doesn't say what kind of shutter that is, or what the plural might be.

"Volet" is the correct word for the kind you're describing. Plural is "volets"

volet is an external shutter.

In the Middle Ages, a "volet" was a piece of material so fine that it "voletait" (fluttered) in the wind. It was used, among other things, to make sieves used to sort seeds; by extension, these sieves were called "volets". This word survived and in the 15th century, a "volet" was the wooden plate used by women to sort peas and beans.

obturateurs is more to do with photography (camera shutter).
