The police in this country do a difficult and dangerous job. I'm sure the opinions of a lot of 'armchair chief constables' simply washes right over them.

This is a simple exercise of empathy. Policemen and women should be able to empathise with the society that they are charged to protect.

personally, I would expect the police to know and understand the community that they take care of - all aspects of it, regardless of race, colour or religion.

It is always easier to understand someone (or even a community) if you have lived like they do. No, it's not perfect, but it is certainly a start.

We seem to be giving in to immigrants and It doesn't surprise me, although not warranted that the bus load of Sheiks who's bus caught fire were racially abused by passing motorist.

It�s not the duty of police to empathise with particular sections of the community. It is the duty of the police to prevent crime and catch criminals.


I'm not saying I approve of this particular exercise (I'm undecided over it), but social relations with the police are a vital part of the police's ability to fight crime. If people view the police as being empathetic or have a positive view in general of them, they're far more likely to get support from the communities they work in. Which is simply invaluable.

I am not on my own using Daily Mail reports, even the biggest hypocrite and criticiser of the Daily Mail on this site, Gromit will regularly use the Daily Mail reports, when it fits his own particular agenda.

I read all the papers including the Times, but it is only the Daily Mail that investigates and prints the details of ridiculous exercises such as this, that we would otherwise never get to know about.

Perhaps we should stop treating extremists ,or those who regard themselves as peculiarly devout, as standing for a whole religion. How many married Jewish women do you know who have shaved heads and wear wigs as a result? How many communiites of Jews in the UK have a fence erected around them? Such believers are no more typical of Jews than Moslems who interpret anything 'Western', including education of girls, as justifying attacks on Westerners are typical of Moslems. Yet, reading AB , you'd be forgiven for thinking that all Moslems have beliefs like that and all are against women being educated, all treat women as second class.

We have no great record.Not so very long ago here a married woman's property was her husband's. Some of us can remember when a married woman could not open a bank account vwithout her husband's consent!
This minimal attempt by police to improve understanding, involving just three officers, is to be applauded.

You seem to ignore the fact that the freely elected Prime Minister of a country with a 95% Muslim population was a woman (who incidentally had a BA from Harvard and studied PPE at Oxford as well as gaining O And A levels from Pakistani Colleges - wonder how this compares to your education)
