question about boxing...how can i build a but of upper body strength?

im a boxer (not professional but i have been boxing for a bit over 2 months, 2 times a week). im really good at it but i think i need to build a bit of upper body strength. my teacher wants me to get into the basketball team in september because im really good at it and im quite fast as well. will that increas my upper body strength? i have a lot of power in my legs so round house kicks are really easy but when i actually punch the bag i feel as if im not punching hard enough.
