Do you believe in the global warming theory?

There seems to be a worldwide belief among world leaders that the world is getting warmer and that the reason for this is man made. Do you agree with this theory or do you think it is just a natural process of a living planet? Yes or no answers are fine, yes being agreeing with the heading but feel free to expand on your answer.

Yes there is Climate Change, how long did the Ice Age last for ( I have no idea but would guess a good few thousands of years)
I think it is mostly a natural process but humans do muck things up.

If it's only the World leaders and not those that are not world leaders, the belief is not exactly worldwide, cos in the places where there are no world leaders, like Southport and Alice Springs, they haven't a world leader to lead them into any belief about world climate change and global warming

97% of CO2 is not man made and the relationship between the Sun and the temperature of the Earth works overs thousands/tens of thousands of years. Its our arrogant to look for changes over years/10s of years.

These natural changes may drown large areas of inhabited areas but I think there is nothing we can do.

People have been predicting the end of the world for centuries, they've also been quick to tell us that salvation can be found in doing what they say (not what they do), there's nothing new in this mindset, it seems to me the more secular we become the more lurid and spectacular armageddon becomes.
Of course to deny it is latter day heresy, the answer is I don't know, it seems a great way to pick peoples pockets but it can't hurt to pollute less.

Well dot, talk about missing the point of a question. I don't give a monkeys about world leaders(the monkeys). Jumbuck, good point, as technically anything we do is a cause of nature as we are a product of nature.

I don't know who to believe It is very confusing, I don't know who is blowing smoke. There are elements in the world that have no conscience and greed always rules.

As an atheist I know the answer to that question (sorry, I know that this thread isn't about religion), but what a combination - comedy vicars and environmentalists...

Errm, I'd be fascinated to hear what suggestions the Greenies have put forward for interfering with nature. As I understand it, they want man to stop interfering with the natural balance.

Interesting point of view - bit like the chief termite insisting that it's arrogant to believe that the termite swarm could possibly destroy the house that's been standing for hundreds of termite generations, or the bacterium convinced that he and his mates can't possibly destroy the host body that they're living in.

Global temperature change and its variation from region to region is natural, the Greens want to control that rate of change so that the threat to the status quo is minimalised.

But then you;'ve fallen for the decades of green propaganda that started drip-dripping into the media at least 30 years ago and are never gong to accept that.

It was acid rain that was going to destroy the world back then, nuclear power followed it, then the hole in the ozone layer, of course you've still got the threat of a volcanic super eruption in Yellowstone park, the Icelandic land shelf collapse, meteorite strike and an ovedue flu epidemic.
With the millenium bug somewhere in amongst that, all pronounced by experts with qualifications etc.

123everton, yu are putting up straw men: I don't think anyone ever claimed that acid rain would destroy the world.

Some of you examples were potential disaster that have been avoided or at least ameliorated only because corrective action was taken . The Ozone hole is still there, and many people can attest to its presence by displaying their skin cancers. However, dropping the use of CFCs for aerosols and refrigerators has helped. This wouldn't have happened without people drawing attention to it.

Similarly, the Millennium bug did exist and was potentially disastrous (although no-one in their right mind claimed it would bring about the end of the world - that was just the tabloids. Once again the dire consequences were averted because it was identified and appropriate action taken (I know, because I and many others spent months fixing it).

That's because we are (at least we are messing it up for ourselves and similar creatures) but most people would prefer to pretend otherwise only because they imagine that it's in their short term interests to do so.

I do think it's a natural process, although I've no doubt man is contributing to the problem. If we all stop driving cars, etc.we might delay its effects a little, but sooner or later the inevitable will happen. We aren't powerful enough to fight nature and it's nonsense to think we are. People are being conned and there's a lot of money being made from the threat of global warming.
