woman who smuggled dead baby home
3 Answers
does anyone remember this story? It was years ago (and probably longer than it seems to me). A young british woman had a baby abroad (Spain?) alone, and in some state of post-natal shock, put it in a holdall and tried to fly back home.
There was a big debate at the time, as to whether the baby was stillborn or if she had harmed it.
I can't remember her name, but i saw an interview while she was waiting for a trial (I think!) and she was shaking very badly and insisted she'd not hurt her child.
Anyone know what happened to her?

There was a lot of debate as to whether the baby was born live or stillborn (I believe she claimed the latter).
The USA do not have 'infanticide' as a category of crime and therefore regardless of the balance of her mind, she would have been charged with murder if it was proven that the baby 'took a breath'.
Like you, the details after that are a little hazy.
I'll see what I can google...........
