I think all Catholics should be totally ashamed of their beliefs and their church, and the Pope should be executed by a good traditional stoning in public, OK, not executed, that would put us on a level with him and his beliefs, most of us aren't that barbaric!!

Listen to the whole debate, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NL5WVecNdhk ive pasted this link to Stephen Fry's part as he puts his point across so well

Piggynose, you really dont know this God do you, you have obviously never read the bible, you are another that has just cherrypicked all the good bits from this religeon, christianity and god has caused so many deaths, tortures, is guilty of slavery, sexism where do I stop!!! Read the bible and if you believe what is written, you will be totally disguted by Gods own words!!!!!
Booldawg - I believe the way to do it is:
"Spectacles, Testicles, wallet, watch.........."
Sandy, like most people who champion religion and the religious, you choose the rose-coloured picture that suits you, and ignore the rest. I seriously cannot see why the world would be a better place if more were to follow the church's teachings, but I'm willing to listen if you'd like to tell me. As far as I can see, like most religions, its teachings are founded on blatant lies. They are designed to instil fear and guilt into the susceptible, the vulnerable, and the weak, and they are nothing short of wicked. In fact, in my opinion the world would be a far better place if religion didn't exist at all.

piggynose, the Catholic church has also done a lot of bad - and is still doing a lot of bad - but perhaps you're another one who prefers not to think about that. As for Stephen Fry, there's little point in making such a statement here if you don't qualify it because no one knows what you're talking about. Why is he a sad man?
Piggy, Stephen Fry said at the very start of his speech that he was in no way aiming it at Catholic followers - the millions who have faith and believe in it wholeheartedly - but instead was aiming it at the Catholic Church, the establishment and it's leaders. Your statement that Stephen Fry is a sad man because you have nice Catholic friends is just nonsense and you didn't even listen to what he had to say, so how can you possibly pass comment on it?
Karen, because despite what he says, he's happy to 'cast the first stone' when it suits him - even though he doesn't know why he's casting it.
Piggy, why is it that the really nice people you know are Catholic? You are just lucky - Catholicism is no guarentee of being nice - as my personal experience attests. indeed, I know several very nice Catholics - my in-laws, my wife and my children spring to mind.

My issue - along with Mr Fry - is not the individuals, or the faith itself - it is the hierarchy with its nasty secretive Machiavellian rituals, its unatural practises, its hypocricy, its wilful stuborness to move out of the twelfth century, its double standards, its selfishness and greed, but above all, the all-encompassing belief that the Church is right, and brooks no dissent at all.

As a character in a film once said (the Devil ironically!) - "There is just enough religion in the world to make men hate each other, but not quite enough to make them love each other." Difficult to argue with tht view-point as well.
piggynose is doing what religionists always do when they are given the cold hard facts about their beliefs (as, for example, Dawkins did in TGD): answer with vagaries and generalities. The right way to answer that fine speech by Fry is to take his allegations one by one and rebut them. Can you do that, piggynose?

As for all the nicest people you know being catholics, that is an extraordinary claim. I know a huge number of nice people and there is no way I could so compartmentalise them. Jews, various types of Christians, Muslims, atheists, male, female, white, black, brown, tall, short... Perhap you have lived in a nunnery most of you life.
piggy In view of the fact that there only 9% of the UK are Catholic where on earth do you live
that you can say # all the really, and i mean really nice people i know are all catholic # ?

Piggynose,

"what was it oh yes those without sin cast the 1st stone. yes it was from the bible. but it has some logic."

Read your bible, it is Gods command to stone people to death for showing disrespect to your father, for being unfaithful, for being gay, for not being a virgin on your wedding night.

You think all that is fair Piggynose? it is Gods word!! Read your bible!!!!!
