Dying
24 Answers
Really morbid but I just wanted to know what your thoughts are on dying!!
I am scared of dying, not neccessary the actual death itself (hopefully I wont feel a thing!) but the thought of being burnt or buried when dead! Pathetic I know because I will be dead so I shouldnt be bothered!
I'm not about to die (well I hope not anyway!)
Just wandered if anyone else thought the same.

"So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart.
Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and
Demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life,
Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and
Its purpose in the service of your people.
Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide.
Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend,
Even a stranger, when in a lonely place. Show respect to all people and
Bow to none. When you arise in the morning, give thanks for the food and
For the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks,
The fault lies only in yourself. Abuse no one and no living thing,
For abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts
Are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes
They weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again
In a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home."

I'm not at all worried about death; in fact the oblivion could be very welcome. However, I sometimes feel concerned about dying; having witnessed the deaths of members of my family by illness or accidents and seeing the terrible results of hospital interventions; I just hope for a quick and painless end when it comes, I would not wish the suffering/pain that I have seen on anyone.

Having been with many people as they died all I can say is for the great majority it has been quiet and peaceful..... and there were no indicators in terms of blood pressure h/r to indicate stress levels being raised...and I only once saw someone go uneasily and that was a man for whom life had always been a battle who fought to stay with his young wife and children....until she told him to go and she would be fine....I am not afraid.....
As I get older, I think about my death more often.
I was driving back from a festival on Sunday night - four hours in torrential rain, and occasional aquaplaning with the excess water, got me thinking about dying on the motorway, with no way to say godbye to anyone ...
I don't worry for myself - mostly for my youngest daughter because we are very very close, and she depends on me emotionally a lot, so i know she would / will take my death very hard, and I know there is nothing at all i can do. i just hope we are both old enough for her to be able to accept it as a reality.
As an aetheist, I have no belief in an afterlife, I just hope that the loved ones I leave will be OK, and not grieve too hard or for too long.
