Do you all have central heating?

I'm asking as we've only just cobbled together the money to get it installed in our house (job losses, children, debts, bills ets always got in the way) And I'm quite excited about it. However EVERYONE who I speak to/tell about it looks at me in utter horror, shock and amazement and said "You don't have central heating...?".

So....my question is....anyone else not have it?

How is your house heated then?
Question Author
Gas fires downstairs, and plug in raidiators upstairs.
When we first moved to the area we rented the two lower floors of a Georgian house (big rooms) and that had no central heating, no gas fires and no plug in radiators. We managed to persuade them to put central heating in and it didn't even touch the cold - I have never lived in such a cold, damp, miserable crap hole (but if you had the money to do it up it would great). Hope you like it when you get it finished.
I have electric storage heating.
We have it BOO, but I do prefer the open fire in the lounge..a lot of logs and a bit of coal...lovely. To me it's luxury...we had frost on the inside of our windows when I was a kid. Enjoy xxxx
I have central heating, but my brother doesn't, he has a gas fire in the front room and one in the dining room, which doesn't get used. The house he lives in belonged to Mam and Dad, and they never bothered with it (the old school). so I doubt he'll bother for himself.
I'm afraid that in this day and age it is akin to someone saying, "Are you not on the phone?" or, " do you still have a black and white telly?"
I have central heating.

why are you changing? is it more cost effective?
When you do get it Boo you will wonder how you did without it.
Unless you live with my old man, who's Scottish and thinks the whole of the English poplution are wimps....If I put my central heating on before christmas eve...I get a row

Changing? from what? we don't have anything to change from Sara.

Well, we're only really having it put in as we're slowly doing the house up so that we can move the hell away from this craphole :-)

Boo enjoy your house when you get the central heating. I moved into a brand new house some 20 years ago and it was coal-fired central heating and it was brilliant. I have moved to oil and whilst it is convenient there was nothing like the old coals. You will know the difference. I too picked the ice from inside windows in the bedroom and also we used heavy coats on the bed to keep 11 of us (not together) warm. But 11 people generate heat and we all got by.
If you're selling the house then central heating is a must BOO..People today can't live without it...so a good move

to be honest Connemarra ive never been THAT bothered by the cold, we're a mid terraced house, our lofts insulated and we've double glazing. The only time i remember being bitterly cold here was last winter- but then so was everyone else as well!

And I don't want ot enjoy my house, I hate it here- why we're forking out for CH, so we can get the hell away from it ;-)
Where are you planning on moving to BOO ?
Question Author
Cornwall Mazie, its my dream, and if i have to live in a shed down there, i will do, lol.
My OH wants us to move but I don't really want to, We replaced out CH boiler last year, but now the bathroom could do with brightening up (it's tiled to the ceiling) and also the kitchen units look a bit faded to me. We could go on and on spending money on the house and we won't get it back if we sell.
Good for you BOO... go for it... and all the best xxxx
My old man wants to move back home.....to wait for it.................Scotland..... it's bloody cold up there :o(
