There was a thread on here a while back, we all agreed that there is nowt wrong with golliwogs these days!
Question Author
im very glad to hear it and sorry for re-doing a thread but didnt see it
Golly!
a golliwog is a golliwog, that's what it's called.

However, on another thread I mentioned that during one storytime at infants school Sister Mary Dominic read to us from a book about a little boy called Little Black Sambo.....doubt whether that would be read today!!
I agree entirely gina.
I always thought it was PC gone mad, when "Robinsons" had to remove their iconic
golliwog from the jars of jam.

There is a pub in the village called The Black Boy and I'm surprised this isn't considered politically incorrect (although the picture is of a little chimney sweep).

Saying that, I live in one of those places where if someone who isn't white walks down the street, everyone is a little bit surprised to see them there.

There was a bit of a furore round here a few years ago when a pub called the 'Labour In Vain' put up a pub sign of a white woman bathing a black child and obviously scrubbing away at his skin. In the end, they changed it for a farmer sowing seeds and loads of gulls eating them as soon as they landed.

I think a better story (apocryphal of course) is the pub that used to be called 'The Reluctant Virgin' - but due to complaints, they re-named it 'The Halfway Inn'!

I thenk yaou!!!
Will Robinson's start doing the badges again and putting them on the jars.

Used to love that.
Is it true that you can't call christmas lights " fairy lights" anymore? I have heard this somewhere but i also heard about the ba ba black sheep thing so who knows what's true?
I say golliwog and fairy lights. I shall recite baa baa black sheep to my grandchildren and still use the word puff. Bugger this correctness business, it's all gone qu33r...
And what's wrong with calling a spade a spade?
And I don't mean that in any -ist sort of way whatsoever.... ;-)
I bought some Golliwog Mouse Mats & Coasters for some people for Christmas from our local market, like these on the link. They are really sweet.

Here's the original one gina, it was quite a few months back! http://www.theanswerb...k/Question945372.html
As a child I was terrified of Golliwogs and they still give me the creeps. I wouldn't have one in the house even now!!
I love Golliwogs! ;o}
