Why do we pamper drug addicts? They chose to start taking the stuff in the first place. Instead of prescribing them methodone to try wean them off, why not just lock them in a padded cell for a few days with basic food and water. They would soon be off the habit.

<<<How, exactly do 'we' (and who is that ?) pamper drug addicts ?<<<

I think that David means diverting medical resources to them in the form of counselling, medical drug therapy and hospitalization.

We....I presume means medical and social authotities.
That's just the point - they wouldn't be "off the habit"

You don't seem to have much of an understanding of addiction.

It's like suggesting that if we got a brass band to play outside the windows of people recoverring from a hang-over they wouldn't go out and get drunk again
If aversion therapy worked like that everyone would be an only child!
pixi...does have a point.

Crippen, the Yorkshire Ripper, Jack the Ripper were all anthropomorphic.

pixi-
**They are humans like the rest of us....I serve meals to them every day...and hey-they even have 2 arms,2 legs, a heart,...and maybe even a soul....just like us.**

<...also quite a lot of them steal from family and friends...... rob houses, shoplift, mug (usually vunerable) people and rob off one another (not that thats a bad thing, it keeps them from robbing someone else)>

I never said they were saints.pixi. And most are their worst enemies. I have no idea what the success rate is for charities like the one I work for as regards getting these guys back on their feet, but I've no doubt that it's quite low.
The bloke I know still gets it in bottles Pixi, I had a situation several years ago where my son (who was then only 3) nearly drank it as he'd left it on the table when we were visiting. He has been more careful with it since then and keeps it in a locked cabinet.

I have to say though that this bloke has never been unemployed and has no criminal record, he is what is known as a functioning addict. You would have no idea he was one if you met him in a social situation.
pixi...I wasnt referring to your post.....I was referring to JTH´s post (I think)

Very true daffy.
Im sure if they wanted to die they would commit sucide -they wouldnt choose to go down the route of self destruction -its dirty, sordid and painful....
