That is the biggest problem that atheists believe that any one who believe in God has never thought about it. Perhaps with "Very Open Mind" you should do what you are telling others. Consider all of the option without making your mind before you even think about it.

I personally think it epitomises the arrogance of civilised humanity by looking at the size of the universe, the billions upon billions of stars and planets, and then saying "I know how all this happened, and the fella who made it all, chose one of our lot to mother his son, and chose us to look over and answer to!"

That again just suggests to me that god is whoever or whatever you want it to be...thus a creation of your own imagination and nothing more.

You're making quite a few assumptions. That a God is sentient and can make decisions. That given that it chose just one species and one of that species to do sometthing. All seems very christian oriented.

flobadob, the argument you put forward is the corenerstonne of the concept of faith - a belief in a god whose existance you believe, but which you cannot prove is what faith is.

Any religion is based on a similar faith - and that has sustained mankind for a very long time.

I do not believe in God, but i attempt to empathise with those who do.

So any Christian is simply going to say 'yes' to your question - what else would you expect?

that's exactly it though Old Geezer, isn't it all assumptions? If I were to talk about every god I'd be here all day with the variables. Ultimately though, they all suggest a deep understanding of everything which is a little arrogant to say the least!
The fact is, we don't know, there may or may not be a supreme being that created it all, why can't people just admit they don't know instead of clinging to one opinion and declaring that to be correct and anything contrary to be utterly wrong and deserving of contempt?

The ancient Greeks believed that Zeus existed. And so for them he was real. I can't prove that he didn't exist or that my God does. Simple faith is enough for me.

To believe that is fine, in my eyes, and your faith is clearly warming, makes you who you are and I'd never suggest that that feeling should be taken from you.
It's the suggesting that it IS the case is what bothers me and seems to be route of countelss conflicts.
Nobody has the right to insist that their opinion, without any factual backing, is more valid that anothers. Why is it that with religion, we cannot just accept that there is no factual backing and agree to disagree?

Sandy.. if I understand you correctly you are praying to your omniscient, omnipresent and omnipotent god so that I will believe in your god. Doe he need you to tell(or ask)what to do. Is there a time scale for this to take effect because it hasn't happened yet. When might I expect to find myself believing? I should point out that you religious chaps haver been praying for non-believers for millenia and so far zilch.
