Were Adam and Eve merely fictional persons?

The Genesis account in the Bible tells us Adam was the first human creature and Eve, the first woman was his wife.

As it has often been said: “Tell a lie often enough and the people will believe it.” Many politicians appear to agree with this, and, in the minds of many, politics is closely associated with lying.
People tell lies for all kinds of reasons. But sincere Christian know “There is Someone up above who knows all and what you are doing.”

Jake - I am not a scientist and the subject about Neaderthaals and others have been discussed by many before and have been rejected as well. For me the only one thing is enough that all those pictures you see of cavemen are the creation of people depending upon assumptions. Then even if they were living in caves then no one can say that they were not human but apes as in few parts of the worlds people might still be living in caves or cave like places.
Islam believes that God created human and he gave them different shapes during all of the process. And same way God created other creatures including apes and certain people were changed into apes as punishment too.
But nowhere Islam believes that Apes were changed into human.
Any way to answer your question I will post a link where someone else has taken the pain and gathered some information.

keyplus - neither does anyone who understands evolution "believe that apes were change into human". Humans ARE apes.
Six million years ago humans, chimpanzees and bononos had a common ancestor which then split to evolve into three of the Great African Apes. Earlier, that common ancestor split from the common ancestor of those three and the gorilla, and, before that, another common ancestor embraced the orang utan, completing the five Great Apes.
It really doesn't matter what Islam or any other religion "believes".

Bit late with the reply but - in mand early texts especially Jewish, Assyrian and so on Lilith was created like Adam by God out of dust and was the first woman. Adam and Lilith lived together happily in the garden of Eden until Lilith objected as being treated as second class by Adam even though she was created his equal by God. Lilith left the garden ans went to live by the banks of the Red Sea were she copulated with deamons and gave birth to 100 little deamons a day. God sent one of the arcangels to Lili
Thanks Keyplus
As it happens that article is a bit confused - it seems to think that scientists think that Humans are descended from Neandertaals - which of course they are not and then loudly attacks this "straw man".
However if you cite someone called "kool dude" on yahoo answers then, well you're kind of asking for trouble.
Paul - I think that Lilth stuff is from apocrapha - not the generally accepted Bible isn't it?

The Bible is remarkable in its lack of coherent meaning anywhere within the pages bound between its covers leaving itself wide open to various interpretations and the rationalisation of a host of evils. Ultimately, it is only through the application of reason by the human mind that any truth that might lie obscured therein can be ascertained. In this way the Bible presents itself as more of a test of rather than a testament to the human capacity to reason proving itself to otherwise be nothing other than an incredible waste of time as well as an inexhaustible bone of contention.
For myself, I prefer tetris where in completing a line I am rid of it and better prepared to confront a new and greater challenge.

Adam and Eve had two sons Cain and Abel. Cain murdered Abel, left Eden and went East to the Land of Nod where he found a wife and had a son Enoch.
Who were his wife's parents? Had they evolved rather than be created? Did they know that Cain was a murderer? Was Nod quite built up as Enoch found a wife so there were obviously other families? What was God playing at not telling Adam and Eve that there was a town nearby?
So many questions....

Thank goodness monkeys back then evidently knew how to read and write or we'd have no documented eye witness account of the first two humans at all . . . or was it the snake what wrote Genesis?
Sorry Spreading, I'm having a bit of trouble following your 'logic'. By the way, your last name wouldn't happen to be, 'Rumours' . . . would it?

<<However, Bible scholarship, science and archaeology more and more bring forth evidence refuting all such attacks. >>
Really?
Name one.
And post a link to some verified scientific evidence.
On the contrary, archaeology is discovering the things distorted and concealed by the bible such as the evidence that the Israelites were not monotheists as the old testament states.
