Do you thank anything for your life?
41 Answers
Believe what you will about a creator, God or whatever you like, the fact is that we are all here on earth. We all get up in the morning, spend our days doing what we do, and go to bed. It's a cycle that has been repeated and will be repeated all our lives.
So my question is, how do you feel about the fact that you have been given life? Do you feel any thanks towards anybody or anything, or do you simply think I'm here and I'll go. I took care of myself from after I left home and that is that.

Exactly Doc, and should we fail to realise the potential we've been given, not only by virtue of our blood line, but in failing to take advantage of the knowledge accumulated by those who paved our path, such is an insult for which we must be prepared to pay in repeating past mistakes should we default on and fail to add our own contribution to a squandered inheritance.

And picking up on Doc's 'chance in a zillion' argument ....
think, each year:
how many zillion sperm come to nothing.
how many zillion eggs go unfertilized.
how many billions of fertilized eggs naturally abort without even being noticed.
how many millions of pregnancies miscarry.
The arrival of each and every one of us into this world is the equivalent of a jackpot in an amazing lottery.
The least we can do is make the most of it - ideally without worrying too much about whether we should be trying to identify someone to thank.

After that don't you think you should be thankful to God for giving you a chance out of all those zillion and billions?

I am not sure if I can get this down right... It isn't so much being grateful but appreciating every wonderful thing around you....the stimulation of the senses...the closeness to another human being ... the wonders of the world and the vastness of the sky... I don't believe in a creator god... but even when I am in the deepest hole of depression... I can get a moments relief from the song of a robin...the scent of honeysuckle, the sound of the wind in the trees..and the taste of chocolate... so I am grateful for what ever string of chance occurance brought those moments into being

You're assuming that's what happens.
If you are suggesting some sort of personalised selection process going on you are either very ego-centric in your view of the world or the 'god' in your model is concerned with some very trivial decisions.

with you there zeuhl, that's my main problem with religion, it's such an arrogant ideology!
I would thank everybody who's lived before me and who has added anything to my existence which, according to that BBC population counter, I reckon would be around 30 billion people if you consider the butterfly effect. Without the input of any one of those people I may not be here today!
