Well she's 7.5 now and has been questioning everything about him etc. Strongly suggesting for weeks that she 'knows'. So last night she told me all her friends had said he isnt real and its mum and dad who buy you stuff really! I asked her if she thought it was true and whether she'd be upset if it were true. No, she replied as long as I get presents I dont care!
I asked if she wanted the truth and she said yes so I told her. My OH wasnt impressed but she's not bothered at all and even asked why we'd lied to her about Santa before. Would you have lied?

No, if she brought it up then tell you're right to tell her the truth. I think people pussy foot around this way to much.
Nope...absolutely not. The sooner they don't believe in him the better imo :-)
Once they are ready to know things they ask... you could have course have made it even more fun by telling her daddy still believes so she a) thinks he is very silly which is fun...and b) can collude with you in a safe secret which is also fun...
parents demand proper appreciation for all the money they spend, rather than Santa taking all the credit. Especially from kids whose only concern is that they're given things.
My grandaughter believed until she was 10, and my grandson still believes at 9. If they don't ask, don't tell them, but if they do, then you shouldn't lie.
I'm 89 and I still believe in Santa as he visits my Home every Year !

I think for such things the child should tell you not vice versa. Or reading such outlandish claims from a website. You don't get innocence and wonder back again once lost.

But if at an age when they ask for the truth, then that is probably a good time to explain facts. As for the question re lying before, then be honest again and explain you don't believe fictional stories don't really count as lies, and would she have preferred never to have heard fairy stories and such like ?
Lor' only knows how the double negative crept in there :-(
No dear the man who comes every christmas that you see with a sack is the caretaker.... he's been collecting the litter.... shame...it's his age you know.... You still believe in talking reindeer or was it a moose
Ha Ha ! It's that Moose along with a good skinful of Lowenbrau that gets me confused !!!!

My daughter is almost 13 and ive never told her the truth. I know she knows its not true at that age but i just wont admit it to her. She was prob the same age yours when she asked too, It just seems so young!!
Do you still tell her babies are delivered by storks? :-)
No ive always been as honest as i could in that area as i think it is needed then. Its more like a joke between us!!
ps i mean the father xmas is a joke, Not the other.

How do you square the issue of telling your children on the one hand to be very wary of strangers etc, and then on the other hand tell them that an old man that they've never met is going to sneak into their bedroom alone while they're asleep...?
Well Father Christmas isn't really a stranger is he.
And give them toys if they are good/nice....
Garry Glitter has just applied for a job in Selfridges
