Starting a new religion ?
30 Answers
I am thinking of strting a new religion, in order to make some money. The difficulty is that I am not an American, nor do I live in America.
As all the recent made-up religions have been invented in the States, like Scientology, Christian Scientists, Mormonism, etc, what are the chances of making a success of a new religion here in the UK ? Do you think there are enough gullible people living here ?
I am sure that it could be achieved with the assistance of sites such as facebook.

Unfortunately yes. I've been looking into Scientology and find it incredible how much absolute sh1t they're led to believe (Hubbard's been to Venus and invented music etc etc). The indoctrination is very subtle yet leads to adherents giving their money and lives to the "cause". Not much difference from some of the other organised religions, but this was set up just to make money and has worked very well. So, yes there are obviously enough gullible people left out there to form another "religion". Fortunately there appears to be signs that Scientology is contracting (although they'll never admit it).
There's obviously a deep seated human need to belong to something and give a meaning to their lives. Quite frightening really. Just looking through some of the posts on this site only goes to confirm this!

jason that's part of the problems with being human, it's seems to have been hard wired into our dna to want to belong. the pack instinct perhaps from when we were cave dwellers, but seeing how we are supposed to have evolved and moved on, why do some still cling to this unnecessary idea that to belong, be part of a group, gang, cult, movement or other, is the way we should behave. I have never thought like that, perhaps it's why i prefer my own counsel and company, at least when things go wrong, i have no one to blame but myself.
Surely you have not already forgotten the cult of Toryism & the Arch Priest Cameron who has foretold of the promises for all who toil in this garden of ( Anthony) Eden.
