Why are people that have lost their religion or don't believe in god so interested in religion?

I use quite a few sites and it's interesting to see that those who once were religious and aren't no more or those that don't believe in god have a lot to say on the subject. Me if i don't believe in something and have no interest in it especially if i see it as a web of lies, full of hatred and something that i wasted too much of my life on, i would be happy to never talk about it again, or are those that don't believe in god maybe have a tiny atoms weight of belief hence their constant interest on the matter, something that they cannot completely shun as it's a tiny flame that refuses to go out? Also those that don't believe in god seem to poo poo religious lots who force their views down non religious peoples throats yet the anti-god brigade do exactly the same in reverse, constantly trying to discredit and foist their non beliefs down religious peoples throats.

It is good to have the Bible; each and every person should. But we must also know what it says and believe it. If a religion really accepts the Bible as God’s Word, it is not going to use certain parts of it and reject other parts. “All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight.” (2 Timothy 3:16) Since this is so, the religion that is approved by God must agree in all its details with the Bible.
He's back and I see we have a JW onslaught (again)
Goodlife welcome back - I thought you have been banned. Have you been on a brainwashing refreshment course for failing last time?
I see that you are still quoting parrot fashion - nothing has changed has then.

DT: Yes I have had a break, but please don't start all this p & p again! This site you give is an apostate site and one I certainly would not take information from. They, in fact, are posting and pasting from the official JW site. Or they are illegally obtaining certain information that is only available to JWs. But thanks for letting me know about this site.
well that is simple, goodlife; be original in your postings, think about what you are saying and no blanket quoting from JW texts and I won't be picking on you (and this applies to others) - and especially without reference to te source as is our convention here and politeness to recognise the author (and in any public forum or research work).
As to your illegal site, I leave you to pursue that within the framework of your organisation but it looks mighty credible and real to me......

You're kidding yourself. No religion agrees in all its details with the bible. It's so contradictory, it's impossible to agree with all of it.

As an atheist I find my interest in religious belief has been very helpful in my understanding of people in general as well as believers. For example I now assume that very few people make decisions based on logic, they make decisions based on emotion even if it means that they can never find a way of justifying those decisions and if a religion supports their emotion based preconceptions then it works for them. That said, no believers really believe completely because if they did they would obey all the commands of their religion, but none of them do. This is easy for them because once they have dispensed with logic, anything makes sense (sort of) so they can inhabit a mix and match world where they choose the bits that suit them. This is how religions plumb the depths of hypocrisy with such ease, how pro-lifers can kill and how an opulent church can take money from people who are almost destitute. It is fascinating.
Naomi, DT etc.
I don't "kid" myself. I know that there are millions earthwide who accept and follow the bible knowing that it benefits their lives and that it is not contradictory.
The link you gave took information from the JW site and quoted out of context. This is misleading!!
Where I get my information from is not attributed to any one person and also, you would not be able to verify it anyway unless, as I said previously, you got hold of it illegally.
I talk to thousands of people and I answer them if challenged. Here, it is a complete waste of time as all I have found you to do is mock. But there again, it is to be expected. The religious leaders have done a good job and will answer for it in due time.

Goodlife, another thought. The thing is practically everything the religious claim about their holy books or the truth of their religion can be disqualified by rational examination of both their books and their claims.
The Catholics think theirs is the one true religion, the Islamists claim theirs is, as do the Jehovah’s Witnesses – but when any religion is scrutinised without pre-existing judgement, each and every one, without exception, can quite easily be proven to be unsound. For example you claim that your religion agrees in all its details with the bible - but we know that isn't true - and if you were honest with yourself, you would admit that you know that isn't true.
That is why people do not take you – or any other person of religion – at their word. Why would they?
