Be yourself!

Often we want to be somewhere other than where we are, or
even to be someone other than who we are.
We tend to compare ourselves constantly with ohers and wonder
why we are not as rich, as intellegent, as simple, as generous,
as saintly as they are. Such comparisons make us feel, guilty,
ashamed, or jealous...
We are unique human beings, each with a call to realise in ife
what no one else can, and to realise it here in the concrete
context of the here and now.
We will never find happiness by trying to figure out whether
we are better or worse than others. We are good enough to
do what we are called to do.

I used to hope to be somewhere near what great talents had achieved by my age; Einstein at x years, some other at y years and so on, but gave up when I passed the age when Brahms had written his first symphony (about 40) and I hadn't. LOL
We accept that others have more talent or more luck or wealth. When we do resent someone having what we haven't, it's because we think we are their equals; that is what breeds jealousy. Before their parents, the brother is jealous of brother, and in the world the same applies among those of equal rank in an organisation, but no ordinary man is jealous of the billionaire or the duke because he never sees them as like him.

That is by far about the meanest thing anyone has ever said to me . . . like there really is an alternative.
Whenever people tell me to "be myself" I'm once again reminded of my inability to live up to my own expectations, let alone the expectations of those around me. Who the hell do they think I am?
Erm . . . kindly disregard the last question.

I've no idea of the author. It was handed out to us at church the other week
and I thought I'd share it. Yes I am a christian [not of the catholic upbringing].
I dont feel guilt. Christ frees me from that. I do not wish to share which
denomination I belong to. I believe we are all one in the body of Christ. I chose
to be a christian, no one bullied or brainwashed me. I walked into a christmas
carol service over 24 years ago and I loved it so much, I've been there ever
since. They are ordinary people like you and me except I choose to believe
and you dont. That's your choice. I do wonder what you hope to achieve with
your posts day in day out. Do you hope you will win new atheist converts?
I am very sad about the conflicts in Syria and other parts of the world also.
But they are not all caused by believers. Most of the worlds problems stem
from greed and the need for power. I dont profess to have all the answers and
I'd like to see the world become a better place where we could live side by
side without prejudice. To be honest I didn't expect the answers i got, I just
wanted to share, but anything that dosen't fit in with your way of thinking
seems to put you on the defensive. Off to get some sleep, so good night to
you all!

The cry of offended evangelists everywhere - "I was only trying to share, I was only trying to help" - Never once do they consider that their sharing may be offensive to others.
And something else I have noticed - like some other avowed christians that have posted here, cupid seems to be very coy about their particular brand of faith - Surely in the spirit of sharing, you should be only too happy to share with us your particular brand of belief? Or are you ashamed of it? Why else would you say "I do not wish to share which
denomination I belong to" ?
I for one would appreciate it if you at least state the source of what you are posting, when you post it.
As to the "day in, day out" posts - I see at least as many from those who believe as those who don't. As to the worlds problems and what causes them, I would strongly recommend you look again. Communities in Nigeria slaughtering each other, over their brand of religion. Communities in Syria, slaughtering children and innocents, over their particular brand of the same religion. Breivik in Norway slaughtering children because they are part of a system that allows the immigration into Norway of Muslims, and he has set himself up as a defender of the faith.
Everywhere you look, cupid, from virtually any decade of our recorded history, you will find conflict, death and destruction from the followers of one brand of religion of another -simply because they follow another faith.
"God is Love" say the faithful. Based upon the evidence, Gods love is sick, twisted and murderous, and such sugary confections as your OP look trite, facile and inconsequential.

No. There is in fact one “religion” that will not and does not participate in conflict, these ones will NOT fight another regardless of what faith they are, whether they are Christian, Hindu, Moslem etc.etc. They adhere strictly to the command “to be no part of the world”. They would die themselves rather than participate in wars. They are not anarchists. They obey the laws of the land in which they live – but their allegiance is to God only and if the laws of the land conflict with God’s, then God’s law takes precedence. Acts 5 v 29

Cupid, I am always myself – and I really don’t need someone else to tell me how to live. However, like LazyGun, I find it curious that you are reluctant to own your brand of religion. Despite your enthusiasm for someone else’s words, it seems you haven’t really taken the little homily on board because you still lack the courage to be yourself.

Ha ha, birdie. You all take offence when none was intended. I 'copied and
pasted' a text that I was given at church. I thought some people might like to
read it. I was under the impression that this was the 'religion and spirituality'
corner. Though not a lot of that goes on here. Being a christian dosen't
mean that I support wars and famine. It's little wonder that any people of
other faiths would want to come on here when there is such hostility. There
are many other forums on the internet where people can share their beliefs
without the opposition you get here. Please tell me why you comment at all when you have no interest in religion or spirituality?
