Some people soon realized that if I was to please God, I would need to make some changes in my lifestyle. For example, I learned from the Bible in says at 1 Corinthians 6:9, 10: “Don’t you realize that this is not the way to live? Unjust people who don’t care about God will not be joining in his kingdom. Those who use and abuse each other, use and abuse sex, use and abuse the earth and everything in it, don’t qualify as citizens in God’s kingdom.”
Worthwhile, though I don't see how the promise of God's kingdom should be the only thing to keep people moral. Some people manage to be good without believing in any god; it's built in to our evolution to try to be so and threats of divine retribution or promises of divine reward won't change that.
And what of the other changes that the bible, God's word, has brought to lives? Stoning for adultery? Persecuting supposed blasphemers? Discrimination against homosexuals? Believing as fact that which we know now to be false? There must be quite a few, from the Old and New Testament
Well, so far you've put a '?' after a statement and then told us that according to Corinthians you were not in fact living a goodlife is there in fact anything you want to tell us that is worthy of our time?
Fred sums up the fallacy of assuming religion to be the source of human morality exactly.
I am far more concerned with unjust people who do care about god - care about god so much that they commit the most heinous of unjust acts on the fellow humans through instruments of terror.
And, given some of the frankly ludicrous clothing and lifestyle advice offered in Leviticus, I do not think the bible or the god whose words the bible is supposed to reflect should be considered a worthwhile and benificent arbiter of what should be considered abuse. Cosmo is a far better lodestone :)
goodlife Your life seems to be dominated/regulated by the words of uneducated people who lved thousands of years ago who filled in their lack of knowledge by describing a world they would like it to be. They created a supernatural entity in their minds to give some validity to their desires.
Unfortunately they based their beliefs on a narrow little world which has miniscule relevance to our knowledge of our world.
You may find comfort in that narrow world but it's acting as a cage .
Davethedog @ No,None of you can slow the world’s accelerating pace. However, on a personal basis, we can make adjustments that enable us to live a more calm, balanced life. But before you consider the matter, you examine some of the effects that today’s frantic pace can have on you personally and on society as a whole. (2 Corinthians 5:10)
The problem here goodlife is, Davethedog refers you to this passage in your bible Luke 6:37, judge not, and ye shall not be judged. Your answer to him is" none of you can slow the world's accelerating pace". Can you explain the connection?
Yes uneducated I like that word, believe as you do,’ they say. ‘All competent scientists believe evolution. All intelligent people believe it. Only the uneducated and the ignorant don’t believe it.’ By such intimidation and mental bullying, masses of people are herded into the evolutionists’ camp. They know nothing of the weaknesses and inadequacies of evolutionary theory or its unsound speculations and hypothesized impossibilities—such as the origin of life from inanimate chemicals. So they are swept along by the repetitious mantras recited by evolution’s propagandizers. The theory becomes dogma, its preachers become arrogant, and dissenters reap disdainful abuse. The tactics work. They did in Jesus’ day; they do today.
