searching for origin of biblical quote

I have spent ages today trying to find where the following quotation comes from. It may not be worded correctly!

Jesus said "do not look for me among princes or in palaces but among (more lowly people)."

A friend asked me to help and I feel as though I know the quote but can't find it anywhere.

I don't think this is a biblical quote.

If you visit the Public Library, they will have on their shelves a Concordance to the Bible, where every word which appears in OT and NT will be listed, together with the location of the verse in which it appears.
Some websites which offer the full text of the Bible may also be searchable. You'll just have to try all the possible words, like " look", " search" or, ( more likely) , " seek"

Nothing springs immediately to mind (except ‘Why seek you the living among the dead’, but that’s not the same thing at all). What about these verses?

Sounds familiar but don't think it's in the bible.

It might be one of the common tales that are read out in sermons.
The one that rings a bell is the one about the bloke who was told to wait for a visit from god. While he's waiting a beggar comes to the door three times. You can guess the ending.

Shoemad, perhaps you should post this question in 'Literature'. The quote might ring a bell with someone there. I must admit it does sound familiar, but I can't think where I've seen it.
