Where was God, when that gunman was stalking the corridors of the school in Sandy Hook, killing all those people ? Was he away that day ?

If the Christian God, that so many Americans are always going on about, loves us so much, why did he allow such a thing to happen ?

He'll comfort the grieving......so that's alright, then.
Oh dont worry the theists and freaks will justify it somehow, they always do.
How many times has this sort of question been asked and answered after similar tragedies ?

Assuming the existence of a God they it was probably feeling sad at someone who had done the wrong thing, and getting it's angelic minions to gather the dead to guide them to the next stage of their existence.

Why is there always an implication that no tragedy will occur if a God exists ? If that was the scenario folk would soon learn they can do anything they like without consequence, and that would surely not be useful.

Odin.

Well spotted.
And what was done by human to stop anything like this? Where were the human who were supposed to do whatever to avoid these sorts of incidents from happening? Where were the human when other human were (and still are) manufacturing machines that can kill millions? What have you done to stop it from happening again apart from putting blame on someone else, God in this regard?
^^^ careful. If you don't have enough on your plate, it'll be fao squad in croswords next ;)

He was possibly in Wal-Mart stocking up on groceries and ammunition. Sick country where a house holder can legally own an assault rifle.
Apparently according to this pack of disgusting lunatics- God planned it, along with most other atrocities- and theyre planning on picketing the children's funerals. Nice. So glad I'm not them.

Keyplus...you misunderstand me completely. Of course a god didn't cause the massacre. It was some stupid American, who had access to guns. Insanity and gun ownership....what a combination !

My point was that if God did exist, why didn't he do something ?

As an atheist, I don't believe that any gods exist. But how do Christians square their belief with the events in Sandy Hook ? What kind of god would allow it to happen, and more importantly, why ?
Im not saying this article is right or wrong, but it shows one view of why maybe God doesn't interfere with man's evils.

http://conblogeration.blogspot.co.uk/2008/03/why-doesnt-god-stop-evil.html
I heard one Christian say "The presence of great evil strongly implies the existance of the reverse"

Obviously a flawed argument logically but I thought quite a clever one emotionally and one which I don't doubt will appeal to many religous people
With regard to the link that B00 posted.

I've always like an argument waldo once posted on here.

If evil is the result of our free will (which seems the line that blogger takes)
Is there evil in heaven?

If not (and I think most Christians would say not) is there no free will in heaven?

Now some Christians would respond by citing Gods ability to make such impossibilities possible.

If that is the case then God must have the ability to square that circle on Earth too.

Which brings us back to why he does not

He cannot - and is impotent, so much for omnipotence
He does not care to - so much for loving
He wants the suffering of innocents - He is evil

The only all powerful God that permits such suffering in my book must be evil
Not an impossibility Jake. If your free will is going to force you to want to do evil, then you aren't going to heaven. There are awkward questions one may ask, but that's not one of them.
OK well I think the Christian doctrine also blames free will for sin as well as evil

And I don't think there are many sinless people knocking around

So either heaven has no free will or sin or it's pretty empty
I'm planning to be the sole resident ;-)
Have fun with the pitchforks.
Its the American people who are at fault here,if they didnt insist on the constitution for all Americans to bear arms then things like this would happen with far less frequency.Look no further than those who oppose banning guns.
Oh and by the way god must have been on a tea break.
You theists believe in God, then you believe God made us all. He made us what we are. Therefore he gave us our will. . You theists say he gave us free will but if so he made us strong willed or weak willed, strong minded or weak minded. He made us evil as well as good.

Whatever we are it is God who is ultimately responsible he made us.
He made all the sinners in the world as well as the saints.

In Genesis it says God made man in his image and judging by Gods actions in the bible that would account for man's violent behavour ever since.

That is a better question IMO. It boils down to, why do things have to be the way they are ?
