With the allegations about cardinal Keith O'brien in th news, is it not about time the catholic church got its house in order. Sexual abuse within the church is horrendous! But who is going to police any future investiations! It cant be the church higher authority becouse they are the two faced hypocrites who are doing the abusing. The church should be a place of safety, not a hiding place for child molesting, sexually depraved monsters!
What angers me is the way the catholic church goes on about morality and telling us all how to be better people! This abuse and cover-ups has gone on long enough, it has to stop now!!

But It isn't one man is it? sexual abuse within the catholic church has been going on for decades. Time and time again it gets hushed up and covered up, and as head of this organisation the Pope is ultimately responsible. Many years ago when I went to Sunday school and church we heard the saying, Suffer the Little children to come unto me. This seems to have changed...

The Catholic Church is in total disarray.

It's the laughing stock of the world.

Nobody trusts it or respects it as an institution.

I feel that more and more people will, like me, be turning to Voodoo.

Well said jogger, but i'm not sure about the voodoo!lol
The Catholic church isn`t the laughing stock of the world. It might be the laughing stock of the non-Catholic world but these allegations won`t make any difference to the people in South America and other places. I was in Mexico City a while ago and you still see the devout Catholics walking on their knees to pay homage to the Virgin Mary in their places of worship. Catholicism is so ingrained in their minds that no amount of scandal will make any difference. Some of those people live in such abject poverty that their religion is the only thing they have to cling on to. They won`t relinquish those beliefs lightly - scandal or no scandal.
Sadly, that sort of (absurd) behaviour illustrates the fact that the Catholic faith appeals substantially to the uneducated and the gullible ...

The very people upon whom people like Catholic priests should really not be let loose.
Yes, it`s sad that some of the population of South America are uneducated and "gullible" isn`t it?
Well, I know what you're saying. But the sort of gullibility I mean is ...

//you still see the devout Catholics walking on their knees to pay homage to the Virgin Mary//

... and none of them would stop to say ... Err, why would Mary want us to walk on our knees, exactly?

(Answer: because the priests say so???)
I think the tradition goes a lot further back than that.
It is as 237sj says, Catholics have their religion the same as others, it has been ingrained in most of them since childhood. I have a friend who married a Catholic and became Catholic to bring up their children in that faith. They are certainly not uneducated gullible people, but they have their belief, it will most likely shock them, but not sway their faith.
Some of the people I've spoken to think that the Catholic church is an evil institution and are pleased that these things are coming to light. All I can say is that when I was a child the nuns used to visit my neighbours, a poor Catholic family every week asking for money, they could ill afford it and the nuns were awful women.
Playing drums and sacrificing chickens just seems more rational.

The point is its not about faith its about abuse and the abusing priests who have the trust of innocent children. You dont have to be catholic to
understand that, you dont need any faith at all! If people keep backng up and protecting the priests what chance do our children have!does the safety of our children no come first or am i missing the point!!
^^^ agree with you wimp.

If it were any other organisation, the police would have been closed it down long ago and everyone involved would be prosecuted. Why not these priests and WHEN will it end, when will it ever end?
Put your pitch-forks down.
3 allegations, repeat, allegations against one man.
Jj, I'd be staggered if there weren't one or two Catholics with a better education than you.
Could be wrong, who would know?

Thank's maydup! Glad you agree. Its been going on to long with the top brass turning their heads and they have the arrogance to tell the people of the church to ask for forgiveness! They have no right to preach or even be near a church!

sveik. It is not just one man! Are you one of the many who's idea it is to ignore the problem as if it's not there?
Svjek....sixty two years experience of the Catholic Church has taught me to keep the pitch fork close at hand.
Three allegations against one man makes me wonder how many there could, and probably should be.
As for JJ...There may be a few Catholics better educated but I'd sooner play her drums and pluck a chicken for her to sacrifice than let the evil that is the Catholic Church into my life....though I do draw the line at the nudity bit JJ.

Vulcan....you are so right. I had a friend who was abused by a priest. Very few people knew/know about it. At the time it happened we thought...no-one will believe us....we were so young and had no idea what to do. We didn't even have the words to say what was being done to him. The priest has since died.
Now I think....how many did this happen to....how much is still hidden.
I'm not religious myself but I do know that many priests (and nuns) have devoted their lives to others. Alleviating poverty and suffering around the world. How many of us has?
I don't know if the voo-doo comments are meant to be humorous but its not for me.

Svejk....it is possible to work to alleviate poverty and suffering throughout the world without belonging to the Catholic church....I have many friends who do and although unable to help first hand I do a fair bit to support them from this end.
The Catholic Church does far more harm than good in the Third World and the odd decent priest or nun doing good by no means makes up for this harm.
This church needs closer examination......it is evil and corrupt at the top.
Maybe, let's not fight.
