Would the Universe be any less wonderful if it was devoid of life, sentient beings and God ?

Well the Belief in Darwin’s theory has led many sincere people to conclude that their existence is devoid of real purpose.

Who or what would be around to wonder at it, if it was devoid of life and sentient beings? And are you suggesting there are sentient beings who are not alive?

And, whilst we are at it, what evidence or proof is there that god is in the Universe now anyway?

The Universe would already appear to be devoid of life, sentient beings and God, so I am not sure there would be much difference, unless someone has found life on Mars since I last checked at 09.00 this morning.

I think the question is a leading one since it uses and rather than or. It implies anyone who answers accepts the premise that the universe already has all three.

It's an interesting philosophical question as to whether something can be wonderful without a being there to judge it so. Is wonderful a state detached from the observer ?

Assuming it is, then I'd say yes. Wonderful though a universe without life might be, it is enhanced by such things as sentient beings, IMO.

But if you need an observer then the question becomes meaningless, since no one is there to judge.

Wonderful is a subjective word so without sentient beings it couldn't be wonderful.

What I find most amazing about the universe we live in is the human capacity to contemplate and to some degree understand its existence no less our own existence within it. It is this mutual existence that brings meaning and purpose to both, without which there would be no point in its existence and no possibility of our own. It is this mutually beneficial interdependent relationship that brings value to both.

The capacity for and availability of wonder, that's what makes us and it . . . a wonderful thing.

Yes it would be less wonderful, it is life that gives us variety. I spent several years in the desert and the most wonderful sight for me was seeing
the masses of vegetation on land as we sailed into Southhampton .

Similarly when you travel across a continent it is the change in life that is the most wondrous.

Not really. Life on Earth will be gone in a few billion years and the Universe will be no less wonderful.

It's pretty bare as it is and anyway if we weren't in it we wouldn't be able to wonder if it was less wonderful! But no, it wouldn't be. And it's probably missing God anyway, in my opinion, and still remains wonderful.
