Would You Share Your Place Of Worship With Others Of Another Faith?

Apologies if this has already been discussed here. I did a quick search and couldn't believe that no-one had asked this yet.

I've been mulling this story over for a couple of days, and while I think the Christian priest and Muslim imam must be extraordinary people, I wonder what tensions there might be among their respective flocks?

Joint prayers and then providing food for the needy sounds wonderful. But would any of the believers here be prepared to do the same thing? And would you feel obliged to use the opportunity to try to convert others?

If the odd Muslim or Jehovah's Witness drops by you might be lucky. They are the only ones who seem to stand up for what they believe.

"Church leaders believe this may be the only place in the UK where christians and muslims worship side by side". They`re wrong there. There`s a multi faith prayer room at Heathrow airport so it`s not actually a new idea.

i am not convinced that WW3 wouldn't break out if the two religions you mention collided. What makes you think that a Christian priest and an Imam have anything in common, or that they would shower their beneficence over all. The followers of Christianity and the followers of Islam have one thing in common they believe in an unproven deity.

They don't worship 'side by side' in that Church.

Muslim worship is Friday mornings only there.

I think it's wonderful. Lots of places are shared places of prayer today - funeral homes, hospitals and hospices, airports.

If they don't worship side by side there, does that mean that Christians who want to say a prayer before boarding their flight are barred from using the place on Friday mornings?

A while back I tried to attend a Synagogue and was refused entry. The said I had to be a member and pay the fee. Could you believe that?! Pay the fee!!

Society, unlike other religions the Jews don't want converts, so they have no reason to welcome outsiders - but I'm intrigued. Why did you want to go to a synagogue anyway?

It sounds like a nice idea, this multi-faith business.

But I wouldn't willingly stay in the same room as a Jehovah's Witness for more than 1 minute, 'coz that's all they need !

hmmm , i can't see it catching on .

Afterall there are fundamental differences between the Muslim faith and christianity - not least Muslims do not beleive that Jesus is the son of god .

Also there is a big difference between a prayer room at an airport , which does not belong to any one faith ; and a dedicated christian church building
Yes i can see them providing non religous services to the community of whatever faith , but not having a church service , with christians and muslims worshipping , side by side .

Spanish followers of Islam asked if they could share the building that was once called the Great Mosque of Cordoba. Local Catholics refused. It's now a cathedrel.
Sharing could only be a good thing.
