Should You Object To Cremation?

Some people feel that cremation—that is, the reduction of a corpse to ashes by burning—dishonors the body and the memory of the dead person. ‘It is of profane origin,’ they reason, ‘and thus should be shunned by those who profess to worship God.’ Others believe that cremation is a perfectly acceptable and dignified way of disposing of human remains. How do you feel about this matter?

I like to do my bit for the environment where I can. Looking into the local availability of promession.

For the macabre .... the resulting carbon can be made into a ring stone.

It's a flash in the pan. though I rather like warming a swimming pool with my 'emissions' as in Hereford or Wolverhampton, (perhaps it's Lichfield) where they have linked the crematorium flues to the pool heating system. (I think it is in these two places).

As I will be dead at the time ( hopefully ! ) I can't see what possible concern to me as to the manner in which my body will be disposed. It might matter to relatives and friends that are attending my funeral but how can it matter to me ?

I would be very happy if my body is harvested for any useful organs though.

I agree that is a fine pome, the work of a master wordsmith at the height of his powers. I sometimes think it was only his moving to Canada prevented him from eventually wearing the wreath of the laureate.

I like Services work generally - great evocation of place and mood I think.
