It seems there has been a bit of "back peddling" with regards the "infallible" popes statement of a few days ago.
A spokesman from the vatican has issued a clarification of the popes words and guess what? It didn't mean what you thought it meant.

Chrisgel, Things rarely do mean what you think they mean especially weasel words from the snake tongued one. bless 'im
Here we go again, yawn.
So it would seem.
An interesting link. I like the FAQs, otherwise known as "Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church".
I'm not sure why any atheist should give two hoots, regardless of the specific meaning that gets attached to Frankie's proclamation.
Waldo, I don't think atheists give even the inverse of 2 hoots, but popey wouldn't understand that.
Sorry, but I have to laugh.

Correction: I'm not sorry. :o)
I quite like it that the pope should need spin doctors to clarify what he meant.

They're probably praying he doesn't start talking about the virgin birth or contraception.
"the snake tongued one" ?
"Frankie" ?
"popey" ?
"They're" ?
Anyone wan't to have the courage to explain these risible insults?

It's not really a matter of atheists joining the club. The Goodly unGodly, whether they want it or no, are sure of a seat at his table.
I hope you'll excuse a little cut & paste here:
"The secrets of hearts will be brought to light as well as the conduct of each one toward God and toward his neighbor."
Good, decent, people would conduct themselves in such a fashion that there will be no impediment found to stop them enjoying eternal happiness.

Yep, they all refer to the pope except the last one which isn't an insult anyway.

I don't think everything a Pope utters is ex cathedra. And you are responsible for your interpretation on his words of wisdom. I looked at your link. Apologies but seems a lot to read through this morning. but I'm sure you are right.
Ludwig, cooo ... you're brave. ;o)
Wharton, Courage? Why? has a pope ever been honest or shown any sign of integrity? Popes can get away with murder and often have since they are adored by their sycophantic followers. Anyone who is prepared to subject millions to untold misery to support an ill considered point of dogma deserves no respect.
ludwig - So you admit they are risible insults then? Good lad, 10 out of 10 for honesty. "They're" is an inane generalisation which is an insult to anyone with an IQ above room temperature.
Oh dear, another one of the christian fraternity who believes there is an extra book in the bible called condescension.
Wharton hasn’t told us why the pope and his cronies should be exempt from criticism – or from ridicule - but no doubt his reasons, if they are ever forthcoming, will make interesting reading.
I didn't say that the Pope and his "cronies" (another risible insult?) should be exempt from criticism or ridicule. Slightly off the point but....

Imagine a young atheist falling in love with a young woman.

Imagine the two get married in the chapel (means nothing to the young atheist, he's in love).

Imagine the atheist's surprise when a brick comes through the window with a note attached reading "Papish Bastards".

Imagine the atheist's further surprise when the local constabulary dismiss this as "It happens sometimes".

Imagine the atheist's even further surprise when he discovers that everyone in the country seems to be an expert on Popes.

Imagination? - No; reality in 21st century Glasgow (UK)
Wharton, that wouldn't happen if there wasn't a pope :-)
jomifl - but there is, and it does.
