Why Didn't God Save His Son?

I was asked this question by a theist who was looking for some theological answer. He was rather put out when I said ' He couldn't because he didn't want to be accused of nepotism .'

Because the christian god demands human sacrifice. Bit primitive, that. Doesn't half put me off christianity, since I keep wondering who might be next.

How do you work that out, he gave his son the massive job of saving the sins of the world - don't you think people would have accused him before?

As has been said before ....because he was a very naughty boy.

As I understand it, God sacrificed his Son so that the Son Of Man could live - Jesus taking all the sins of mankind on his shoulders, and paying for them with a common criminal's death - about as far from the Son Of God as he could possibly be.

The reasons are quite simple.
1. Jesus was not the son of god.
2. God is not omnipotent
3. God doesn't exist
Take your pick, I go for No. 3 as it trumps the other reasons.

The Christian belief is that Jesus was part of a divine plan to save humanity.

The death and resurrection of this one man is at the very heart of the Christian faith.
For Christians it is through Jesus's death that people's broken relationship with God is restored.
This is known as the Atonement

What sins did you have in mind. ? Millions have died in the name of Christianity, so Jesus has failed dismally, and millions more have died and are dying in the name of the same God, Yahweh, Allah , Jehovah.

In the Bible it refers to original sin, the descendants of Adam.

2000 years later and it is still a failure. A bit like the second coming which St Paul was expecting within his lifetime and preached accordingly.

That we are all born into the world with sinful natures.

The question assumes there was value in God's son continuing to live here, when the alternative was that he come home to his father. If the son had achieved all that was needed then there was no point in prolonging his exile.

God supposedly gave his son's life as a sacrifice, so that mankind could live forever. Where the logic is in that I have no idea.

Octavius, I presume that that is the royal 'we'. I acquired my sinful nature through observing how the church operates and used it as a role model. I left the god bit out because god is superfluous and not really necessary in order to fool people, witness the last 2000 years. :-)

What sins did you have in mind. ?

I didn't have any sins in mind, I am an atheist - I was simply advancing the Christian point of view. I am unable to argue the scenario because I don't believe in it.

But I always believed that son was father himself. So how bad it is that few people managed to put god on the cross.......very strange.
