Is This God's Love And Justice ?
30 Answers
I asked a large group of theists why God killed so many innocent babies and infants in the OT. Here was the answer for the Canaan slaughter .
//God knew that if these Canaanite children were allowed to live, they would spell the undoing of Israel. The killing of the Canaanite children served to prevent assimilation to Canaanite identity.
If we believe, that God’s grace is extended to those who die in infancy or as small children, the death of these children was actually their salvation. We are so wedded to an earthly, naturalistic perspective that we forget that those who die are happy to quit this earth for heaven’s incomparable joy. Therefore, God does these children no wrong in taking their lives.
So whom does God wrong in commanding the destruction of the Canaanites? Not the Canaanite adults, for they were corrupt and deserving of judgement. Not the children, for they inherit eternal life. //

The only problem is the slaughter of the Canaanites was to prevent them defeating the Israelites, whereas the Nazis' did the reverse . But even that may have been God's revenge for the killing of his ' son'. Any excuse for a good slaughter.
Modeller,
Re the key to the quote: "We are so wedded to an earthly, naturalistic perspective that we forget....."
And why not? Mankind created every god ever to "exist". All "god's" words, actions and morals were invented by mankind. Just where are god's words or history separated from mankind's stories? OK theists they come from people who are inspired by god's words. Sorry but these people are currently diagnosed as mentally ill.
So original quotation includes it's own destruction.

Dear Boxtops,
No theists are not mentally ill, they hear voices from their church's employees.
But hearing voices direct from god is deluded at best and mentally ill at worst. These people can be very dangerous to themselves and others. The theist innocents have to rely on certain people long ago who believed they were in direct comms with their god.
I thought his was clear as was my exposure of the flaw in modeller's cited quotation.

goodlife I notice you dont deny the barbarism of your God . Your faith must be very weak if you are unwilling to stand up for your belief .
In my OP I quoted just one of many theist answers who tried to explain and justify Gods barbarism but you wont even try.
The JWs wont be giving you any Brownie points. All that opportunity of converting non believers lost.

Dear beso,
I get your drift but have to disassociate myself from your term "nutter". I used the term mentally ill in my last in my last 2 posts. It is an offensive term even for theist leaders let alone others outside religion.
Today's religious leaders are not ill, they are clever manipulators of the innocent and are heads of "churches" which are really big business corporations.
Sure religion has supported all wars and caused many but greed for power (hence wealth) has been the major player.
Although I am an atheist, I am not a pacifist. But my limits are restricted to the defence Britain soil alone. In fairness, we atheists do not have clean hands as far as war and crime goes.
Hope that brings some balance to this debate,
