A atheist raised the following problem: “To some extent there is order, wonder and beauty in nature. But this is only one half of the picture. The other half is terrible chaos.” Then, after explaining what he means by “chaos”—such things as natural disasters, pestilences and the like—he goes on to say: “A religious person gazes lovingly at the order in nature that strengthens his religion, but looks away from the chaos that weakens such creed.

/how did consciousness appear in matter? / Khandro, the reason I hadn't answered your question is that you hadn't asked it:o) It is a fatuous question as there is no evidence that conciousness exists in any matter other than a that miniscule proportion of matter that is organised into nervous systems. If you are implying that all matter has a conciousness then I can only think that you have been reading another silly book by your Polkingthorn chap who long since lost contact with reality and whose powers of reason appear to be compromised by an inflated ego and excess vanity. Anyone can think up daft ideas, it takes a tad more thinking to recognise them as such.
Mibs, //Good question . . . another thread perhaps? ;o) //

Go on then. ;o)

Khandro, Why don’t you tell us what you think?

//It's not difficult to work out where on the evolutionary//

The only reasonable explanation is that a supremely intelligent Creator coded the instructions in DNA and simultaneously made the fully formed proteins. The interaction between them was so well devised that once begun, this process would ensure that proteins would continue to copy DNA to make more genes, while other proteins would decode genes to make more proteins.

Clearly, the marvelous cycle of life was set in motion by the Master Designer, Jehovah God.
Goodlife, let us assume (and in the complete absence of evidence, it can only be an assumption) that “a supremely intelligent Creator coded the instructions in DNA and simultaneously made the fully formed proteins”, we have absolutely no way of identifying that entity – so it’s a bit silly to claim that we have.
If god was a master designer He cheated His way though engineering because some of his body layout features are ridiculous.

That because your a atheist.

One atheist, a professor from Poland told a missionary in Africa. However, the sister was able to have a discussion with the professor and gave the book Life—How Did It Get Here? By Evolution or by Creation?

When the missionary returned the next week, the professor told her: “I’m no longer an atheist!” She had read the entire Creation book and now asked for a Bible study.

So what can you do to succeed in giving a witness to those who say that they do not believe in God? First, consider the various reasons why people make this claim.
goodlife, //So what can you do to succeed in giving a witness to those who say that they do not believe in God?\\
Well for a start you could name the Professor, the nursing sister and the books Author.

And you think it do any good? because I done it before, but you can look for the book. Life—How Did It Get Here? By Evolution or by Creation and see for your self.
This proves nothing, it's written by the jh!!!!!!
Life - How Did It Get Here? By Evolution or By Creation by Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society (1984)
Oh dear. :o)

MTH Goodlife.

See I can read you like a book.

They call to mind the words of the poet:
Some read to prove a pre-adopted creed,
Thus understand but little what they read;
And every passage in the Book they bend
To make it suit that all-important end.”
Goodlife, that suits you perfectly. You really are priceless! :o)
Classic, Goodlife, read it again and then look at yourself, you hit the nail right on the head. lol
//Some read to prove a pre-adopted creed,
Thus understand but little what they read;
And every passage in the Book they bend
To make it suit that all-important end.//

I can think of no book more amenable to such ends as . . . the Bible.

Yes I can see it hard for a atheist, one admits: It is enough for me to contemplate the mystery of conscious life perpetuating itself through all eternity; to reflect upon the marvelous structure of the universe, which we can dimly perceive, and to try humbly to comprehend even an infinitesimal part of the intelligence manifest in nature.
Goodlife, let me help you out here. Again you've posted a bit of copy and paste without attributing the author - in this instance Einstein I believe.
//The only reasonable explanation is that a supremely intelligent Creator coded the instructions in DNA and simultaneously made the fully formed proteins.//

Goodlife, the conundrum which science is still working on, to try and work out, is this: -

Genes code for proteins but DNA needs proteins to function.

It is such a co-dependent system that spontaneous formation of such a system is bizarre and improbable but incremental development, as part and parcel of "generational descent with mutation/modification" is the only sensible conclusion.

Then again, if you are a meek and humble person and it's all a bit too complicated for you to understand, then be my guest, convince yourself that the mighty magic man did it all. That at least allows you to focus on your daily life and your job. I do not expect you to change your mind about this for a minute.

So long as you realise that you should not expect me to change my mind either, then I'm sure we can get along.

:-)

Hypognosis @ Yes,the project’s is to list the exact sequence of the chemical components of each of our 100,000 genes, as well as the other parts of the genome. But as scientists develop their DNA-reading skills, they find the genome to be more complex than they envisaged.

And in my book it says..... “Your eyes saw even the embryo of me, and in your book all its parts were down in writing, as regards the days when they were formed and there was not yet one among them.—Psalm 139:16.

So what does the evidence reveal, If evolution is true, then it should seem at least reasonably possible that DNA could have come about by means of a series of chance events. If the Bible is true, then DNA should provide strong evidence that it is the product of an orderly, intelligent mind.

You, like myself, have the freedom of choice. It is up to you whether you change your mind or not.
