Why So Many Viewpoints?
55 Answers
Why there are such varying views as to what is a Christian is that many do not understand why God has permitted evil or wickedness and so they are taken in by the arguments of atheists. (1 Cor. 1: 27)

How does this prove your argument? Best you get this straight then god has permited wickedness, its not Satan but god.
This is in line with god created man, gave him sin, then impregnated a "virgin" so that god could be born, so that he could be crucified, to clense us of the sin that he gave us in the first place.

Plenty of evidence throughout history that religion has been the prime mover of conflict, DaveTuc. Us atheists do not need to manufacture claims that religion can cause war - history proves it.
As for why there are so many viewpoints as to what a christian is - thats largely down to christians themselves, dividing themselves up between different flavours and sects - Catholic, Protestant. Orthodox. Non-Orthodox. Presbyterian. Wee Frees. All consider their own sect to be the one true christian faith.
JWs claim to be the only true christians, as I understand these things, whereas all atheists and many christians would regard JW's as a minor and misguided cult, obsessed with a literal observation of scripture and willing to reject science and empirical fact in favour of such fundamentalist interpretations.

27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him.

Before giving out about the varying views - perhaps you should explain why your Bible is at odds with that that proper Christians use

Gospel according to Palin 1979:
And there shall in that time be rumours of things going astray, and there will be a great confusion as to where things really are, and nobody will really know where lieth those little things with the sort of raffia work base, that has an attachment…at this time, a friend shall lose his friends’s hammer and the young shall not know where lieth the things possessed by their fathers that their fathers put there only just the night before around eight o’clock...

Idiosyncrasy went some way to explaining that on another thread earlier today. Some bits, it seems, are “spurious and not part of the actual inspired text.” I wonder how they know which bits are 'inspired' and which are not? Goodlife?

Atheists don't need to argue. They need to be convinced. That means you have to show them cast-iron evidence. And that does not mean waving a book around declaring it is scripture, and because it is scripture it must be true. Give us evidence which would convince a Martian who had never heard of religion. Give us proof which cannot be contradicted by reason or logic. Or common sense, for that matter.
What people think of us varies a great deal, depending on their motives and what they have heard about us. We are praised and honored by some, reviled and hated by others.
But as long as we are being guided by Bible principles, we have every reason to be happy and at peace.
You see statements may be at odds with certain scientific theories, but not with established scientific fact. The history of science shows that theories come and go; the facts remain.
