I like this from the Vatican's response:

"reiterates its commitment to defending and protecting the rights of the child... according to the moral and religious values offered by Catholic doctrine."

In another article I saw they claimed they were leading the way in child protection policy.

The Vatican will always protect its own people (I use that word loosely): not so long ago the while the scandal hit the churches in New York it was suggested that the victims were to blame for leading the clergy on: I cannot write what I really think as I would be barred for a year or more. Suffice it to say, sad though it must be admitted, such an unnecessary evil as child abuse will never be completely eradicated, as there will always be people out there who will protect their own.

Since birdie's post to this site (01.31 Sat 08th Feb 2014) and his
mid-discussion with me on the almost identical topic (01.11 Sun 09 Feb 2014) he has disappeared! He was in full flow on the other site and it would be out of character for him just to disappear.
Suppose weather may have shut him down but I am concerned about him.
Anyone know of birdie's whereabouts please?
