A question for people who believe what preachers/teachers of religion tell them.

Regardless of creed, why do you think they know any more about God and the supernatural than you do when you each have exactly the same information at your disposal – none of which can be authenticated?

I take that to mean you cannot explain which people cannot think for themselves. Kind of a sweeping and derogatory statement and maybe one that you now realise is inexplicable and unjustified.
We can all imagine a god. The question is whether you believe it's real.
Question Author
Scrivens, thank you. I think it’s a good question too. Be good to get a straight answer from someone who does believe what the preachers and teachers tell them. ;o)
Won't happen, Naomi....:-\
/and the Ascent of the Virgin Mary into Heaven? /
Really Sandy, that is going too far, as you well know the ascent of Mary is not even mentioned in the bible and was just made up by the RC church because the idea fitted their dogma.
But you are just teasing really aren't you? you surely can't believe it?
Question Author
Pixie, and actually that's very sad. If people are so convinced that what they're taught is right, they ought to have the courage of their convictions and hence, the confidence, to tell us why they think it's right.

Jom, he doesn't.
That is a relief Naomi.. :o)
That's just it, Naomi. They know it makes no sense, so to give a straight answer would just prove how irrational it sounds. Otherwise, they would be happy to enlighten us.
Question Author
Pixie, if it were me, I'd fight tooth and nail to defend my corner. Poor old God, eh?

Jom .... but we're not party poopers. Why spoil his fun? ;o)
Ezekiel ascended into the heavens in a fiery chariot. Why should we imagine that the same mode of transport wasn't afforded to Mary during her assumption?
Question Author
Because she'd missed the bus and the aliens - aka God & co - had already left? ;o)
To be fair, though, people who fight tooth and nail to defend their corner from your questioning, Naomi, don't get an easy ride of it!
pixie; //We can all imagine a god.//
What do you see in your imagination then?
A spirit with a white beard and admiral's hat (for some reason).
Question Author
Jim, and nor will they. Principles are worth defending - and I admire those who have the courage to do it - even if I disagree with them. ;o)
pixie; If you envisage God as an entity distinguished solely by // a white beard and admiral's hat // then I understand the level of your rejection.
Thank you, khandro.
// A spirit with a white beard and admiral's hat (for some reason). //

That's what I imagine too. Let's start a religion. If anyone imagines a different god - e.g with bowler hat - we should probably burn them as heretics. It's what god would want.
ludwig, can you help karenkay with her strat output in the music section?
Sandy, does that mean that everyone gets to go to heaven in a fiery chariot as this mode of transport is 'available'
