At the time of revelation to Muhammed (pbuh) there were not many Christians in that immediate area. Most of the people were pagans and then there were few tribes of Jews. But they had heard about the coming of another Prophet and their knowledgeables did come with questions to confirm authenticity of the Prophet according to their knowledge. Once they saw or heard about the signs then many of them accepted it and converted to Islam as advised in the Bible. But few decided not to as they wanted that final messenger from Jews and not from the Arabs.

In the modern time Christianity has changed and has more to do with St Paul than Jesus (pbuh).
