For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.It is total nonsense. I watched a documentary about crystal healing about 3 years ago. A guy went to about six crystal healers with a bag, he asked each one "what crystal is in this bag?" they all felt waves or heat etc coming from the bag, they all thought they knew what crystal was in the bag and gave their reasons on which their guess was based. After the last healer had guessed, he opened the bag. It contained a "Werther's Original" sweet! These people were professional healers and were charging people for their services!! they are all nothing but con artists or gullible fools!!
I thought I might find you here Naomi !
Of course its all drivel, and there is indeed great danger in people neglecting proper medical care in favour of rot like this. I am continually amazed by the credulity of some people when it comes to this sort of thing....people seem to surrender their intellect at the drop of a hat ! Even a cursory read through my link should make it abundantly clear that this is a money-based con trick, but why do so many people fail to see it ?

Mickey you surprise me. 'Completely inert crystals' Mmmm that would be the Quartz crystals that power your watch and help you listen to 'the Archers'? All Quartz crystals vibrate at different frequencies. People who believe quartz therapy (not healing but therapy) believe that the frequencies given off by different types of quartz crystal will help realign energies within the body. Realigning energies has been practiced for centuries. So for example Blue Agate is supposed to pulsate or have a frequency that will help someone who is anxious or irate as it has a lower frequency, while something like Citrine is supposed to energize as it has a higher frequency.. Anyone who says crystals can heal cancer is nothing more than a quack - it does not work that way. If you are interested look up Piezoelectricity. If you ever have the fortune to visit some of the larger crystal caves you will soon come to realise that crystals are anything but 'inert'. You need to get a nice rose quartz stone and give it a sqeeze now and again - get a little love in your life ;-) -BTW I'm not a crystal healer I have a MSc ( Geology) .
Retro...I am an amatuer fossil and mineral collector, so I have some knowledge, although not as great as yours !
In order for a quartz crystal to be used in a watch or clock, doesn't it have to be supplied with some electricity ? These "healers" just wave them about in the air...can't see how that can work ?
But I appreciate your point about crystal healing being quackery...of that there can't be much doubt.

mikey -its the other way around -and electric pulse is produced through presssure. The electric charge or frequency accumulates in certain solid materials (quartz included) in response to applied mechanical stress. The quartz has had millions of years of stress and has acquired a frequency. I could go on but am about to go out so I'm sure the Net can give you more info should you need it.
jomilf the resonance frequencies of quartz and ceramics for the purpose of technology are transponded to suit which particular purpose it is required. Barium titanate, lead zirconate, and lead titanate are ceramic materials which exhibit piezoelectricity and are used in ultrasonic transducers as well as microphones. Age has no bearing or very little on the frequency of a particular type of Quartz, or any other semi-precious stone or mineral for that matter. It is dependent on the forces applied when the material was was created and what type of rock -igneous,sedimentary or metamorphic. All sorts of stones and minerals are used in crystal therapy, not just Quartz.
Retro...I appreciate your posts on this subject, as I find them very informative and interesting. But it doesn't seem to have any bearing on my OP. If you look at the link, and it is one of very many on the same subject, it is saying that crystals and rocks can help cure a plethora of ailments, when that is patently drivel. Which I am sure you are aware of. If crystals were all plain, like glass, its doubtful whether they would be so popular amongst the more intellectually challenged. Its their innate prettiness that I find attractive in my collection.
But thanks for your info !

Mikey -yes sorry for going off the point it was because of your comment on 'inane crystals' that got me going off on a tangent. .As for healing, I tend to agree with you completely on the inability of any mineral used externally to cure - but many are used in mainstream medicine and health products such as titanium dioxide and zinc oxide .I do believe that wearing a crystal can in some cases have a positive effect on the wearer, be this physical or psychological I have no idea. Like any alternative medicine it becomes dangerous when presented as a Cure and most people that I have personally met who are Crystal Healers are frankly one jewel short of a necklace.
