So we have cults of Satan worshipers multiplying in numbers and we allow them to practice their beliefs and welcome them to our lands to find they hate us. Some hate so much they would give up their life just to take a few of us out. No true god would demand loyalty only a devil would. So why not outlaw it like China does kind of. They limit the practice of it and it really is great. Religion is merely a group opinion and it is a mental dissident to truly believe it. Why can't it be outlawed?
We could indict as many gods as we can find, and charge them with all the killings carried out in the name of religion. We would grant them the right to attend in person to make a defence. Should they fail to appear, they should be convicted and sent back to their countries of origin.
We walked to church this morning (Norman and apparantly has a very interesting organ that people ask to play! - no comment needed) the service was traditional, the sermon was about understanding others, we had a fairly good sing (organist is off sick, so it was a bit haphazard) ended with a cup of tea and good getting together locally.
So what is wrong with that? I'll answer my own question, 'Nothing'.
When religion is outlawed . . . only outlaws will have religion.
Much like the 10 commandments, legislation never taught people how (or why) to reason. The initiation or threat of force is not conducive to nor do such forms of 'persuasion' encourage rational thought.
I would be happy if the churches were subject to the Trade Practices Act.
They aught to be issuing warnings with their sermons that they have no proof that their product is at all effective and that it may be harmful for some people.
I mean they are taking money from the mentally ill. It is the same as someone going up and taking money from kids with slow learning capacities. Not that I am tight ingredients kids with learning difficulties with religious people. Religious people are much more in need. Taking money from these people is morally wrong. It should be outlawed
This isn't a new idea, it was tried in the USSR and by other communist regimes, - It doesn't work! Some people want, and will have, religion, Moscow is now building more and more churches, with new painted domes are in abundance,
Your atheism wasn't forced on you, so why do you want to force it on others?
hc4361, In that case, I'll just say that we have a bunch of unelected bishops sitting in the House of Lords influencing the law of the land. I could go on, but that's enough to demonstrate that your religion does inconvenience other people.
Khandro, //Your atheism wasn't forced on you, so why do you want to force it on others?//
Atheists aren't forcing atheism on anyone. They're objecting to religion being foisted upon them uninvited. See above.
The questioner asks '' why not outlaw religion''. I have a counter suggestion,as the Queen is the religious leader of the UK which is a Christian country why not ban all other religions & insist that all other religions can only be practised at registered private properties which must be licensed & charged extra council tax to be run as religious premises, then all premises that are at present being run as religious buildings can be demolished & houses built there which will help the housing shortages.
Khandro, yes, I've read the OP and I reject the idea simply because we can legislate to prevent people speaking and acting, but we can't legislate to stop them thinking - and nor should we. I have no objection to religion as long as it remains with the individual.
