Jesus was not an imaginary person. He really lived as a man on earth. “In ancient times even the opponents of Christianity never doubted the [actual existence] of Jesus,” notes the Encyclopædia Britannica. So just who was Jesus? Was he really sent by God? Why is he so well known?

Having just spent the last 30 minutes reading through this thread and having a good laugh, I have realised that the original question hasn't really been answered. So, for those who are really interested, and I am sure Goodlife is, I will give my tenpenn'th. If you read John 18 v 33 -37 you will see that Jesus himself said that he came to the earth to bear witness to...

I can tell you he wasn't sent by God.
Why he became so well known is a mystery.
He came because his mummy and daddy had sex.

You see when a man and a woman love each other very much ....
His existence is highly debateable, but to answer your questions….

//So just who was Jesus? //

A descendant of the House of David. I think he may have been the rightful King of the Jews.

//Was he really sent by God? //

Of course not. He was a man. The bible lists his genealogy (twice with variances).

//Why is he so well known? //

Because throughout the ages people have manufactured, embellished, and perpetuated an assortment of myths resulting in umpteen different religions all claiming to be right – yours among them.

Never has a man’s name been so shamefully used and abused.
One could say the same about Yuri Geller.

He is famous but all he has ever really done is bend spoons.

He is also a con artist, and all through history con artists and magicians have made people believe things that are not true.

Jesus was no different.

Most of the churches in the world have got very rich on conning the public in the existence of heaven and hell and purgatory.

In fact there is no proof at all on the existence of purgatory, yet all through history people have paid money the church to help get them through purgatory quickly. And if that is not a con nothing is.

All religion is a con.
Are you telling me that Uri never moved that football on the penalty spot, VHG?
goodlife //“In ancient times even the opponents of Christianity never doubted the [actual existence] of Jesus,” notes the Encyclopædia Britannica. //

People in ancient times didn't doubt a whole lot of things that we now know to be nonsense.

We can understand why the ancients didn't know better but it is bewildering that some modern people continue to be just as ignorant despite the information now being readily available.

Objectively considered, the evidence suggests that Jesus was a fictitious character.
Good life - why do you persist in asking questions on here, when you know that you don't want any answers - as evidenced by your on-going habit of ignoring any points or questions made to you.

What you really want is to pose a question, so you can tell us the answer (well, what you think is the answer, which in your eyes is the same thing) and show your knowledge and our ignorance.

It's people like you that give Christians a bad name.
Jesus probably did exist, not as the son of God but as a Magician hugely egocentric .
Jesus was not an imaginary person. He really lived as a man on earth.

I'm guessing that in many years to come they will be saying the exact same about Frank Maloney

Er.becasue this is a Q & A site? and his question is marginally more entertaining than someones protracted posts on their holidays or medical conditions?

Exactly! Except goodlife does not want answers, he wants to give us the answers, so his posts always fly in the face of the spirit, and raison d'etre of the AB, which is an exchange of ideas.

As I said, goodlife wants to give us his answer - he has never ever once responded to any questions I have asked him, or observations I have made, so I have given up communicating directly with him for those reasons.

//and his question is marginally more entertaining than someones protracted posts on their holidays or medical conditions? //

That is frankly debatable!

I would rather read anything than one-way traffic from a seriously self-obsessed JW!!
Goodlife doesn’t ask questions, he doesn’t want answers, and he doesn't seek discussion. He’s here only to preach.
He was most probably a visitor from outer space, hence decending into Heaven ie returning to his home planet.
Welcome back, goodlife - you've been away for a while. I always enjoy a good laugh when you start a debate.
Oh, Retrochic...that's a little unkind towards members who may want some advice or support on a medical problem.
Should you ever need to post about a condition you may develop I'm sure abers will be interested enough to offer you help.

Goodlife......Jesus was the original Derren Brown....x

goodlife has started a debate???

Where and when was that - it certainly wasn't on here!!!!
Those feeling so strongly about goodlife's motivation are not under any obligation to respond, and yet it is surprising how many want to.

^Oh ye of little faith! ;o)
Khnado - //Those feeling so strongly about goodlife's motivation are not under any obligation to respond, and yet it is surprising how many want to. //

I think the ire generated by goodlife - hence the responses on here from Naomi and myself particularly - are generated by his wilful wunwillingness to discuss his faith with anyone, except to cut and paste vast tracts from JW literature.

That is not in the spirit of the site, or may I venture, of his faith, which I understand to hold inclusivity as one of its cornerstones.
