The Most Joyless Religion

Spent an evening with a few friends tonight....a few drinks, (quiet a few actually) pleasant company etc. Dont know why but somehow conversation invariably turns to philosophy, religion, meaning of life etc as the evening progresses.
However, we ended up trying to imagine what would be the most unpleasant/joyless religion to subscribe to.
With the help of a few vodka and cokes we discussed the a - z of various faiths.
Everything from the Aetherius society to Zoroastrianism.
It doesnt matter what conclusion WE all came to.
Just curious if ABers would come to the same conclusion?
What would you consider to be the most joyless, life denying, unpleasant religion to belong to?

^^ I second that Naomi. Having lived for 3 years in Saudi Arabia.
Not even background music in shops or restaurants is permitted as it counts as entertainment . Saudi TV consists of News,( only once a day in English) government propaganda and Quran reading contests .

andy-hughes.... I don't want to enter an argument at all, but I'd like to say that being Christian has brought me nothing but contentment. My God is appreciative of everything I can bring and I certainly don't feel to be striving all the time against an impossible standard. :)

jourdain, by his own admission andy-hughes, who accompanies his wife to church on a regular basis, finds a degree of contentment in receiving blessings from Roman Catholic priests. Make of that what you will. Confusing to say the least.

Naomi is quite right - but that does not enhance anything the priest says, or the ceremony he conducts, with any credibility whatsoever.

If my wife stopped going to church, I would stop tomorrow, and not miss it for a second.

I am very pleased to read that your faith brings you happiness.

it is my belief that it says more about your mind-set than about the veracity of your God, but I am all for anything that makes anyone happy in this troubled world of ours - which God appears to ignore it seems to me.

The short answer to that is that Shakyamuni Buddha (The historical Buddha)
was not a 'breadwinner' with a family of dependants, he was a prince, he didn't simply walk out leaving them in penury.
