Understanding Jehovah

Can someone explain why Jehovahs do not celebrate in any form.
My granddaughter had a party and invited her classmate who's mum declined on the grounds that they were Jehovah Witnesses and did not celebrate such occasions.
My granddaughter was put out as this girl is among her best friends and was disappointed she could not come.
Sounds stupid to me, but what do I know!?!!!

Jehovah’s Witnesses every day of the week are out knocking on doors of their community.
Their desire is to influence their neighbors to have a strong family—and a strong family unit makes for a strong community. The more individuals and families Jehovah’s Witnesses influence to live by Christian principles, the less delinquency, immorality, and crime the community will have.
This information was very well received by many people have heard this thought expressed: ‘You don’t appreciate what you have until it’s gone.

No ,but you will observed, however, that God did not direct his servants—Israelites or Christians—to proselytize on those matters. The Jews were not told to campaign among the surrounding nations for improved sanitation procedures or for better health or building . Nor is there any evidence that they (or the Christians later) did so when dwelling in other lands.
God said that HE was the one who would act against those ruining the earth; he did not indicate that this was to be a primary concern of ‘his slaves the prophets and the holy ones and those fearing his name, the small and the great.’—Revelation 11:18.

Sharon, I have a background in religion. Im 50 in 3 months time but when I was a teenager I got caught up in the religious thing (managed to get away in my 20's) In some ways I can sympathise with goodlife, but in other ways I still feel the need to tell him that not only is he a fool but also wasting his life by not thinking for himself. His constant copy and pasting of watchtower literature shows this. I actually pity him in many ways.
Ive had many a JW's at my door. On one hand I want to tell them to shove off and on the other I cant help feeling for them. (because I myself have been a religious fruitcake, tho not of the JW persuasion) Its a dilemma because I know how difficult it is being a member of a religious organisation that demands your complete mind.
