Dealing With Born Agains

In my town centre, there are a couple of street preachers who regularly take to their soap box to tell us unrepentant sinners how awful our lives are without the love of a jewish zombie in our lives.
However, a local black, evangelical, Pentecostal church has taken to some radical proselyting on a Saturday afternoon, lots of loud singing, fire and brimstone preaching and in your face "Do you know Jesus?" type of conversations.
I was trying to speak to a friend, over the din of singing and guitars, when a young lady (bible in hand) tried to hand me a religious tract and asked me if I knew jesus. The conversation went like this...
ME...No, Im an atheist
HER...Oh!, Why are you an atheist?
ME...I read the Bible, its disgusting. If its true then I don't want to believe in God.
HER...Eh?
ME...Have YOU read the Bible? All of it?
HER...Er, no. Not all of it
ME...Then it would be a bit hard to discuss something you havn't read.
HER...Have a good day sir, bye.
I had no idea it was so easy to get these loons off your back. Just ask them if they've read their Bible from cover to cover.
How do YOU deal with religious proselytisers?

Some years ago my son and (then) stepson used to make a bet when they came knocking on how long I could actually KEEP them at my door. Once they realised that I knew the Bible inside out and that I knew the history of their organization they would try to make their excuses to back up the garden path while I would try and encourage them to come on in and have a cup of tea and a chat (they never did). It can be fun to reverse the roles sometimes...

Nailit, isn't that like the old joke, how to confuse a JW, invite them in ;} as for dealing with other religions, I've never had to, they don't come up near me, then there is a little grotto in my garden, a child of prague for good weather, so I don't think I need tell anyone I have my own beliefs, at my time of life, there no changing my mind now - an old coffin dodger like me, they be wasting their time
Get really close and confidential with one of them, and say you need help with a bit of scripture. Ask if they believe in peace ? Of course they do. Then ask why Jesus himself said (Matthew 10:34 King James Version (KJV) 34) "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword." That's where they usually start floundering, and, with a bit of luck, give up and go away.
A polite " no thank you, I am not interested" is my first response. This often does not work and then the devil comes out in me.
I cannot see any reason to give these people an excuse for not listening to them. It is them that accost you, not the other way around. It is non of their business what your belief or lack of is.

Nailit...I my experience, its absolutely no good arguing with these people, or even trying to discuss with them.
They have abandoned logic and rationale in favour of ignorance and superstition. So they will not able to understand any rational case that you could bring.
Its best to ignore them entirely. Life is too short.
