Mumtaz Qadri. Anybody Watch Newsnight?

Mumtaz Qadri assassinated the boss he was employed to protect because of the boss's opposition to Islamic blasphemy law (women's rights supporters please google Asia Bibi). .
He was subsequently hanged for the murder.

Qadri now has his own political party in Pakistan (died a martyr for trying to "preserve Islamic culture" in the face of Western secularism, the seeds of the Deobandi movement in the 19th century).

Watchers of the program will be unaware that two Pakistani clerics who attended Qadri's funeral have recently (last August) visited the UK on a preaching tour of UK mosques.

They will also be unaware of the fact that Justin Welby and the elder cleric shared tea on his arrival to Britain.

What inferences about the future of our society might we draw from these few facts?

You suggest I have a bit of form, presumably for being unpleasant or aggressive. (Am I reading you right?). I don't think you and I have ever spoken to each other before this thread, but I guess you've been looking in on other discussions. I'm not aware that my starting point in an argument has ever been to belittle or sneer at people whose views are different from mine. However, most of us humans have a capacity for self-deception, and maybe I'm no different in this respect.

Biographical note, as you put it? Well, I'm strongly for Western culture, for capitalism and am liberal and conservative in the old-fashioned sense of those words - that is to say I want to preserve the freedoms and prosperity we've been fortunate enough to inherit.

As a feminist you will be particularly interested in Asia Bibi's case. Do you know of her? I think she is now in her seventh year in prison awaiting the result of her appeal against the death sentence passed on her.
