.....have you given any thought about which pieces of music you would like played at your funeral?
The reason I am asking is because yesterday, I went to the funeral of my cousins husband who was 78yrs old.The music chosen was 'Nymphs and Shepherds, (young Abers won't have heard of this !) If you're going to San Francisco (Scott McKenzie) and Fanfare for the common man (Emerson, Lake and Palmer)
It seemed like quite a mixed bag really, so I was wondering, if you could choose 3 Pieces of music, what would they be?

I'd leave it for my children to chose. My dad chose the song his coffin was to be carried out to but that was it and he knew he was dying.

That's interesting ummmm as I wondered if you would leave the choice to the people who will be there to hear it, or whether you would choose your own favourite songs or songs that might have a special meaning.
I'm 76 and have got it all organised. I didn't think it was fair to leave it all the my family. Funeral plan all paid for too Not morbid at all, very practical I think. Will done and enduring power of attorney in place if needed.
I've chosen "When the Roll is called up Yonder" La Mer by Charles Trenet, Summertime. Probably Great Redeemer/Jehovah and The day thou gavest.

Speed your Journey (the Hebrews Slaves Chorus) by a Welsh Choir.
How Great Thou Art (Welsh Choir again)
And either:Another One Bites the Dust, Queen or
Always look in the bright side of life, Monty Python
a friend of mine, a solicitor, had to arrange the funeral of a client so asked the deceased's loved ones what music he liked, and they gave him his favourite CD. He passed it on to the funeral director, but was horrified to hear, as they left the crematorium, "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes". True story. He now chooses music personally when despatching former clients.
where ere you walk...

that was the last song !! ^^

This too...
Probably start off with "Ain't It Grand To Be Blooming Well Dead" as folk are gathering, perhaps "Another One Bites The Dust" mid service, then "Firestarter" as the coffin lowers, and folk drift out.

I've never given it much thought because I Do Not want a Funeral. One doesn't have to have a formal 'send-off'. There is Not any need for a Minister of Religion to be present at a Cremation/Burial, or anyone apart from perhaps an Undertaker who is deemed to be in possession of the deceased.

A few years ago, Gretel and I attended a neighbour's cremation. He was a very lovely kind ex Army Recruitment Sergeant. We
entered the 'Chapel', in total silence, everyone was seated and music started......Frank Sinatra singing...New York, New York....the opening lyrics being...."Start spreading the news, I'm leaving today".

Hans.
Yes I have chosen mine, I come in to Time is Tight and on the way out, Beyonce's I Was Here is playing. Sorted.
No music no funeral. I am to be delivered in a body bag direct to the back door of the crem and put straight into the furnace , no ceremony at all. That's if plan A to leave my body to Cambridge University Medical school for students to practice on does not come off!
Hi, Barsel.....not morbid at all......I wish MrG would have done it instead of leaving it to me....though he'd have laughed when we all, instead of walking slowly, marched out following the coffin to....Do You Hear The People Sing.....

Mine is going to be a long drawn out affair.......if they want the wake afterwards they're going to sit through my final goodbye...in my way....

I'm having Red Haired Mary....the famly will know why and smile.....

Something by The Beatles because they were such a big part of my teenage years.....and I enjoyed those....but yet to decide which one....

And of course Joan Baez...lots of Baez.....she's been with me since I was thirteen......

So that's my three for you....but there will be lots more...some from musicals......Luke Kelly of course....Under Milkwood...not all of it perhaps....

I'll stop now....if friends and family read this...as they do I know.....they'll not turn up...going to be a long do.....x
Gness..if God spares me I'll bang the drum as we follow you oot !!!
