Why The Hostility Towards Believers?
80 Answers
Scientists who follow the evidence, and conclude that evolution and abiogenesis, and even the origin of the universe, required an intelligent designer, run the risk of losing their research funding, or even their jobs.
The prevailing attitude amongst the purse holders, is that only a materialistic view in science will be tolerated, regardless of the evidence.
Sadly it is the groups that shout loudest and remain in favour with the universities, who mould public opinion, and so the truth struggles to find a voice.
Do not fall for it. Think for yourself and read the bible for yourself. Check out Christian apologists, such as Chuck Missler on YouTube and give the evidence a fair hearing.
It is your future that is at stake.

Instead of accepting that someone else has come to a different opinion, they instead belittle and insult non believers. And when people get fed up of being badgered by then, and tell them to mind their own business, the zealots act the victim and claim persecution.
// losing their research funding, or even their jobs. //
Money that has been allocated to scientific research should not be used to support any faith. If public money has been diverted in such a way, then those responsible should rightly not get any future funding. If christians want to do reaearch, they should fund it themselves. Having said that, I do not believe anyones funding has been cut because the scientist is also religious.

Vulcan; There's a lot to be said for laziness, as long as it is combined with intelligence. The famous 19th century Prussian Field Marshall von Moltke put them at the top of his list of officers, he said of the intelligent and lazy, I make them my Commanders because they make things happen and find the easiest way to accomplish the mission.
