“Robert Powell: The Real Jesus of Nazareth” follows the actor made famous for delivering the on-screen portrayal of Jesus Christ in the 1970s. Powell and his team speak to historic and cultural experts to ask: “if Jesus existed, who was he? What would he have done? And where would he have done it?” – questions I’ve been exploring for years.

I’ve just spotted this programme so missed the first episode which was shown last Friday, but it’s a four part series and, for anyone who’s interested, I’ve checked and episode one is available. I look forward to seeing what it reveals – if anything.

The importance of the proper motive in reading becomes clear upon examination of the Bible accounts. In Matthew’s Gospel, for example, we find Jesus asking well-versed religious leaders such questions as “Have you not read?” and “Did you never read this?” prior to his giving them the Scriptural answers to their crafty questions.

Goodlife, I do hope you're not implying that my straightforward and perfectly reasonable question was 'crafty'. Proper motive in reading is essential - but it's something that evades you.
Naomi, I don't think that goodlife is implying anything, He's simply copy and pasting again, regurgitating what his masters have told him because he cant think for himself.
Complete and utter retarded numpty.
To ''imply'' anything requires a degree of thinking. A skill that goodlife doesn't seem to possess.
Matthew 1:19 would seem to indicate that Joseph knew he wasn't Jesus's father - so when the program makers refer to him as Jesus's stepfather they are correct .
Question Author
benhilton, that’s the point. Joseph’s ancestry is heralded as evidence of Jesus' status but unless Joseph was the father of Jesus, Jesus had no claim whatsoever to that family line. Therefore the whole concept is nonsense. That aside, I was rather hoping that the programme would investigate, in a factual manner, Jesus the man but it doesn’t because it embraces a pre-conceived notion – and that is not conducive to rational investigation.
//Don't know how to tell you this goodlife, but ALL life ends in death//

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, jn 5 24

and
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. jn 8 24

so cancel the death bit Nailit

Oh death where is thy sting - oh grave where is they victory?
Paul - corinthians I think
naomi //I was rather hoping that the programme would investigate, in a factual manner, Jesus the man //

It would be a short program to investigate that subject because there is absolutely nothing contemporary to suggest that Jesus Christ was a real person.

All there is are the fantasises in the New Testament that are not even consistent with each other.
Question Author
Beso, //there is absolutely nothing contemporary to suggest that Jesus Christ was a real person. //

I know .... but I think the man Jesus existed.
Personally, I find it somewhat ironic that there's far better evidence for the existence of Santa Claus - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Nicholas
How true the words of Jesus: “Blind guides is what they are if then a blind man guides a blind man, both will fall into a pit. (Matt. 15:14) And what a miserable pit of darkness and despair all those who have followed these blind atheists.
goodlife //And what a miserable pit of darkness and despair all those who have followed these blind atheists.//

Except atheists are not in miserable despair.

Moreover, our optimism tends to be focused on improving the planet and the lot of its inhabitants rather than eagerly anticipating a monumental massacre.
Question Author
Poor Goodlife.
