Back in the 60's while stationed in Germany at Lippstadt, were were in Northern Ireland during the troubles over Christmas. The people of the town sent parcels to every soldier! When we came back we weren't allowed to spend any money in pubs etc.! They invited the entire regiment, with families (over 1000 in total) to a reception in the Rathous, (Town Hall) What a wonderful evening. The headline in the local paper read, in big letters, OUR BOYS ARE BACK. We lost three good men on that deployment.

To Waterboatman and other ABers who have served our country in the military, may I say a big THANK YOU for your service and devotion to duty to keep us all safe, you having to experience for real what we lesser mortals only fear in our dreams.
My respect for you is great, and my Christian perspective on events is sincere and well meaning.
I come from a previous generation of military, my father suffered on the Burma railway.
Your experiences are no less traumatic and I salute you.
